Q: What is TRANSCEND Peace University - TPU ?

A:
TPU is the world's first on-line global peace university, designed for practitioners and those interested in skills and knowledge development in the fields addressed by TPU courses. TPU was launched in 2003 following requests by UN staff, practitioners, development workers, politicians, and people engaged in peacebuilding and conflict transformation from around the world who wished to have programs to help them develop their knowledge, skills and tools in specific fields, while continuing in their work. TPU has been developed by TRANSCEND to meet these needs, and provides the on-line form of TRANSCEND's global training programs. Since 1996, TRANSCEND has provided more than 400 on-site training programs for 8000 participants in 46 countries world-wide. Today, TPU has Course Directors from 20 countries, and provides the world's most comprehensive range of courses in the field of peace studies.

For participants with limited internet access, readings and materials are also sent out through e-mail upon request.

TPU courses are intensive, skills and knowledge specific. Participants are actively involved, drawing upon their experiences, knowledge and background, and upon the issues and challenges facing them in their work.

If you are concerned about the time it may take you to participate in a TPU course, please do not hesitate to contact the TPU Global Center for further information and details. Most participants to TPU courses are active practitioners/professionals, and TPU courses are designed to complement people's working needs.
