A 2023 national Gallup Poll in the USA revealed that North Americans are very pessimistic regarding 2023. Across all demographic markers, a majority “predict negative conditions in 12 of 13 economic, political, societal and international arenas.” ‘Hope’ appears to be absent or insufficient for mediating or mollifying pessimism.

Listening to African American Female Vocalists fashioning a song, watching them command presence, and reading about their lives fills me with appreciation and awe.

Martin Luther King Jr. was awarded the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize for Civil Rights and Social Justice. King adhered to Gandhi’s philosophy of nonviolence. In 1955 he began his struggle to persuade the US Government to declare the policy of racial discrimination in the southern states unlawful. The racists responded with violence to the black people’s nonviolent initiatives. (The Norwegian Nobel Institute)
