37 Global 2024 Predictions
Jan Oberg, Ph.D. – TRANSCEND Media Service, 1 Jan 2024

I do not pretend my predictions are scientific or based on a sophisticated social science methodology. They are intuitive and hypothetical, based on my knowledge and experience on international affairs over more than four decades. You may say they grow out of a Wright Mills-like sociological – and peace research – imagination.

From Planes and Trains to World Order Change
Jan Oberg, Ph.D. – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Dec 2023

2 Dec 2023 – Two days ago, I returned from 30 days of traveling around China with my dear wife and TFF co-founder, Christina Spannar. From a visitor’s point of view, China is a service society where things work and people are remarkably kind and helpful (of course with the exception of a few who, like everywhere else, are rude, incompetent, or both).

The US/NATO/EU World Now Accepts Defence through Genocide
Jan Oberg, Ph.D. | Transnational Foundation – TRANSCEND Media Service, 23 Oct 2023

21 Oct 2023 – In civilisational terms war is a backward, primitive thing that solves no conflicts and creates no security. It’s a system of structural evil. Equally primitive and uncultured is the black-and-white, simplified narrative that there is only one evil party: Gazans/Hamas.

*thereby reduce or abolish US bullying and money-based attempt to dominate.

NATO’s Destruction of Serbia: And Where Is Serbia, China and the West Today?
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 Apr 2020

24 Mar 2020 – It was NATO’s first out-of-area operation, against its own Treaty and without a UN mandate. On March 24, 1999. Independent Kosovo was established – against UN SC resolution 1244. Serbia suffered tremendously from the 78 days of indiscriminate, hard bombing. I know because I was there. Finally, Serbia and its president Milosevic was threatened with total destruction of Belgrade. He gave in. And today – 21 years later?

The Corona – An Opportunity to Replace Militarist Security with Common and Human Security (Part 1)
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 6 Apr 2020

2 Apr 2020 – Governments have spent trillions on preparing for military threats created by their own policies. No one prioritised human and societal security. The unique over-reaction to COVID-19 should worry us much more than the virus itself. It can be seen as a panicky attempt to cover-up the failure of an outdated militarist security policy.

The Terrorism-Industrial Complex (TIC)
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 2 Mar 2020

25 Feb 2020 -As we have a Military-Industrial Complex (MIC) or, rather, a Military-Industrial-Media-Academic Complex (MIMAC), the last 20 years have permitted the development of the Terrorism-Industrial Complex (TIC) – that is, intimately connected, wealthy elites who have a common interest in thriving and profiting in various ways from the Global War On Terror with a complete contempt for the rest of us, for democracy and security – and don’t mention peace, they don’t know that word.

Why NATO Doesn’t Target Russia? Nepal Is the New Enemy, Stupid!
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 10 Feb 2020

4 Feb 2020 – About 37,000 soldiers from 18 countries are to participate in the U.S.-run manoeuver dubbed Defender Europe 2020 in May and June. And just how do they get away with deceiving the world with their militarised mantra about stability, security and peace – no matter it is always about more weapons and offensive military strength – virtually without any important (if they are) mainstream media reporting it, not to mention ask questions about it?

NATO’s Deep Political and Legal Crises: The 2-Percent Goal as Defence Illiteracy
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 9 Dec 2019

The total regular UN budget for the year 2016-17 was US $ 5.6 billion. That is, NATO countries spend 185 times more on the military than all the world does on the UN. Do you find that sane and in accordance with the problems humanity need to solve? This author does not. I stand by the word madness. There exists no rational academic, empirical analysis and no theory that can explain NATO’s military expenditures as rational or in service of the common good of humankind.

The Deepening Decay of the West – And the Brighter Post-West Future
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 30 Sep 2019

25 Sep 2019 – It is entire systems approaching existential breakdown because of their own morally corrupt actions and policies – or system fatique. Two Western societies in contemporary history – a former Empire and the present one – increasingly look like failed states, failed societies, and failing their own ideals and laws. What we see is a decay of morals, an erosion of democracy and a downward spiraling chaos with an end but no solution in sight. The Occident has become an Accident. To itself and to the Rest.

(Italiano) Al SIPRI parla il ministro degli esteri dell’Iran – e i media non colgono
Jan Oberg – Centro Studi Sereno Regis – TRANSCEND Media Service, 9 Sep 2019

Iran’s Foreign Minister Speaks at SIPRI – And the Media Don’t Get It
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 2 Sep 2019

On 21 Aug 2019, Iran’s foreign minister, Dr. Javad Zarif, gave a speech at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, SIPRI. The media coverage of his visit to Sweden was yet another illustration of the ‘free’ Western media’s freedom to be ignorant, selective and biased – and that ‘omission,’ at least as much as ‘fake,’ is a huge problem for media consumers’ chances to understand international affairs.

Open Letter to UN SG Concerning Iran
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 3 Jun 2019

27 May 2019 – The repeated threats of war against and sanctions on Iran contain very dangerous dynamics – for Iran, the region and the world – that could easily spin out of control. The situation is such that the UN Secretary-General must be urged to take action in accordance with the UN Charter.

Denmark’s PM Admires a Killing Soldier’s Simplistic View of Good and Evil
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 15 Apr 2019

11 Apr 2019 – An entertaining talk show, “Skavlan”, one of the largest in Europe with 2 million viewers. A dialogue between a prime minister and a UK Special Forces soldier who doesn’t regret that he has kicked in doors and “killed a lot” in Afghanistan. He justifies himself by the most primitive and long-ago debunked theory about Good and Evil in this world. After which the prime minister expresses his admiration and total agreement! Something is deeply wrong here. Disturbing. Do the issues of war and peace not require any intellectual capacity, knowledge or decent thinking? And how come that both the PM and the soldier seem to feel like victims in spite of having, directly and indirectly, themselves taken lives?

NATO at 70: An Unlawful Organisation with Serious Psychological Problems
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 8 Apr 2019

3 Apr 2019 – Western mainstream media and their carefully selected editors and commentators are likely to have only politically correct perspectives on the anniversary. We believe it is important to raise questions about its members and NATO itself: NATO’s huge, accelerating armaments from an already superior position, its nuclear weapons and doctrine, its post-1989 expansion and confrontational policies, its interventions without UN mandate, its role in the new Cold War and – not the least – NATO’s permanent operation in violation of its own Treaty.

New EU Sanctions on Iran: The Plank in Your Own Eyes
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 14 Jan 2019

9 Jan 2019 – European Union issues sanctions on Iran on January 8, 2019. The move puts the individuals and intelligence unit on the EU terrorist list – freezing their financial assets. It’s a brilliant example of Matthew 7:3-6: “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”

Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 17 Dec 2018

10 Dec 2018 – The Universal Declaration of Human Rights turns 70 today. Thirty fine demands that, if you read them today, leaves a lot to be desired in all four corners of the world, including the Western. While people struggle to get them implemented and struggle against those who violate them, it may also be relevant to discuss the concept as such at an occasion such as this.

The Global War on Terror – Another Predictable Fiasco Turns 17
Jan Oberg – The Transnational, 17 Sep 2018

11 Sep 2018 – Today marks the 17th anniversary of what could be called the most counter-productive, if not stupid, war in modern history: The Global War On Terror, GWOT. Today, THAT war is much much more dangerous to the world and its future than the terrorists it allegedly aims to hunt down. And it has caused thousands of times more suffering, death and destruction than September 11 did.

Ten Articles on the New Cold War and a Reflection
Jan Oberg – The Transnational, 20 Aug 2018

13 Aug 2018 – The new Cold War and the War on Terror both have significant, destructive effects on society, diminish its democracy and creativity, narrows the spectrum of opinions and bring us further and further away from the globally desired goals of freedom, democracy and of living in a more peaceful world. Security politics has come to mean destruction of the core fibres of what was to be secured.

Present Perverse Priorities Will Undermine the UN Even Further!
Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 Aug 2018

6 Aug 2018 – The news came a few days ago: “UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned member states that the organization is facing “troubling funding issues as a result of delayed dues payments that will force reductions in non-staff costs.” But who really cares? Any Trump tweet or football result is more important to our media and politicians. The members of the UN still give the world’s military about 340 times more than the UN for its core budget.

Irresponsibly and non-rationally, this US-British-French attack increases markedly the risk of major war that is not based on any legality – not to mention legitimacy and moral considerations. TFF strongly condemns any military action and the rush to war before any independent investigation has been carried out.

We’ve of course seen it all before. It’s about bases (like, say, Kosovo), about control of resources (like, say, Iraq), about regime change (like, say Saddam Hussein and Moamar Khadafi) and it’s about the exceptionalist belief that God’s own country has God’s mandate to create US Imperial peace everywhere – no matter how many times it has already gone madly wrong and no matter how many innocent people are killed and wounded in the process.
