Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate – TRANSCEND Media Service, 23 Aug 2021

17 Aug 2021 – This week, USA/NATO withdrew their troops from Afghanistan. Our love, prayers and thoughts go out to the people of Afghanistan who have suffered so much.

Do Not Be Afraid…. All Will Be Well….
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate – TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 Apr 2020

If this virus has done anything, it has reminded us that we are only human and very vulnerable; we need each other to survive and thrive. If anything, this virus hopefully will cement the opinion that we are All One, brothers and sisters; what affects one affects all. Hopefully, it will create a greater sense of community and solidarity within the human race in addition to respect for each other, for nature and the universe. We will become more aware that we are interconnected, interdependent, cooperation and solidarity being key to human and environmental survival.

Trump’s Ordered Assassinations: Cruel and Inhumane Breach of International Law
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate | The Peace People – TRANSCEND Media Service, 6 Jan 2020

‘There are those who benefit from war, the militarists, the arms dealers, the corporate media/military industrial complex, but those who really pay for militarism and wars are the people and the tax of the poor.  The propaganda and lies of of war are being spread and this time the target is Iran, just like US/UK/NATO carried out wars against Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, etc.  Let us, the people, learn lessons from the past and unite and mobilize calling for no war against Iran. USA troops out of Shannon and out of Iraq! Yes to nonviolence, peace and dialogue!  Let the people unite together to stop war, remembering that there is power in truth and love is stronger than hate.’

Pathways to Peace
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate – TRANSCEND Media Service, 7 Oct 2019

I am very hopeful for the future as I believe if we can reject militarism in its entirety as the aberration/dysfunction it is in human history, and all of us who no matter what area of change we work in, can unite and agree we want to see a demilitarized unarmed world.  We can do this together.  Let us remember in human history, people abolished slavery, piracy, we can abolish militarism and war, and relegate these barbaric ways into the dustbin of history.

Abolish Militarism and War
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate – TRANSCEND Media Service, 19 Nov 2018

Presented at the International Conference against US/NATO Military Bases, 16-18 Nov 2018, Dublin, Ireland – The North Atlantic Treaty Organization-NATO, which should have been disbanded when the Warsaw Pact was dissolved, continue to carry out wars and proxy wars in many countries pushing towards the borders of Russia and resurrecting a cold war between the East and West. Northern Ireland: Squandering a Future
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate | The Peace People – TRANSCEND Media Service, 24 Sep 2018

I want to challenge everyone to look at their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and question: how big is their division? Gone are the days of fear and threat. So where does the problem lie? Declaration of Solidarity with Rohingya and Call for Myanmar Government to Be Investigated by the ICC
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate | Peace People – TRANSCEND Media Service, 27 Aug 2018

One young woman, Fatima (20), told us how Myanmar soldiers entered their village and came into her home. They shot her husband, made her carry her six month- old baby girl down to the lake where they threw the child into the pond and drowned her. They took Fatima back to her home; several soldiers held her down and constantly raped her until she became unconscious. They carried her outside to the field where they left her for dead. She was saved by an elderly Rohingya woman who helped her get across the border into Bangladesh. – Rohingya Genocide Day 25 Aug 2018

When we enquired from the Prime Minister about allegations that the Syrian government had used Sarin Gas, he told us that as soon as allegations came from Aleppo that this gas had been used, his government invited immediately the UN to come and investigate, but they heard nothing from them. More recently however, High Commissioner Carla Del Ponte, a UN investigator, confirmed that it was the jihadists, not Syrian government, that used Sarin Gas.

Speech at Rally for Gaza and Palestine
Mairead Maguire, 1976 Nobel Peace Laureate – TRANSCEND Media Service, 3 Dec 2012

At City Hall, Belfast, N. Ireland, 24 Nov 2012 – Let’s wake up, this is not about Hamas, this is not about the fact that Israel has no partner for peace. I sat with Yasser Arafat in his little compound before he was killed and he cried out for peace. I sat in Gaza with Hamas in 2008 and they cried out for peace. What was Israel’s answer? Israel’s answer was war against them, and not only dropping one or two bombs but the policy of the Israeli government, and look it up, is that when they go to war, they do the utmost damage. They don’t kill one or two, they destroy the whole people.

Justice for Assange!
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate – TRANSCEND Media Service, 23 Jul 2012

I would add my voice to those of many people of conscience around the world to urge Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa to grant him political asylum. Mr. Assange’s only crime is to care enough about people and their right to the truth. He had the courage and bravery to print many truths that embarrassed powerful governments.

In a world where there is a new consciousness of our inter-dependence and inter-connectedness as a human family, NATO is a Cold War relic and an obstacle to real development and peace. Choose Peace—End the Siege on Gaza
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate – TRANSCEND Media Service, 26 Jul 2010

It was reported on Monday [12 Jul 2010] that an Israeli military commission found “no failure” on the part of the commandos who took part in the attack. And while the UN Security Council and human rights groups called for an independent and “credible” inquiry into the matter, there are no such plans in the works. Israel has deemed such independent efforts as “anti-Israel” and a threat to the existence of the state. The result? The US and indeed the rest of the international community stand on the sidelines, doing nothing. On June 5, I was aboard the MV Rachel Corrie—a ship named for a young American activist who was bulldozed to death by the Israeli army in 2003—heading to Gaza. Just days earlier, we had heard via satellite phone that Israeli commandos had boarded six ships, including the Turkish MV Mavi Marmara, in international water, and had killed and injured many aboard.

Open Letter of Appeal to the Jewish People
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate – TRANSCEND Media Service, 19 Jul 2010

I write to ask for your help in gaining the freedom of a good man, a man of peace, and a man of conscience. In the Jewish scriptures there is great emphasis on justice and freedom and it is for such, for one man, that I write to seek your help. He will not be aware that I am writing this Appeal, but I do so in the hope that, with your help, it will produce his freedom, and not (and this I must risk) cause yet more punishment and cruelty to be inflicted upon him.

Choose Peace – End the Siege of Gaza and the Occupation of Palestine
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate – TRANSCEND Media Service, 28 Jun 2010

On Saturday 5th June, 2010, thirty five heavily armed Israeli navy seals commandeered our boat, MV Rachel Corrie, one of the Freedom Flotilla, in international waters (30 miles off the coast of Gaza). As they did so we, nineteen humanitarian activists and crew, were on the deck. We were quietly anxious, aware of the solitary figure in the wheelhouse with his hands held high against the window, in full view of the three Israeli warships, four approaching zodiacs and two commando carriers, whose guns were pointing in his direction. I personally wondered if the courageous Derek Graham would live to tell the tale, conscious of what happened on the Turkish ship, Mavi Marmara, earlier in the week.
