Photograph by Jim Watson \/ AFP \/ Getty<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>15 Mar 2018 &#8211; <\/em>Hours after an armed teacher in a Northern California classroom fired a gun and injured a student, the head of the National Rifle Association proposed placing a second armed teacher in every classroom, to shoot the first armed teacher before he or she can do harm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHad there been a second armed teacher in the classroom to shoot the first armed teacher, this regrettable incident would never have occurred,\u201d Wayne LaPierre said. \u201cThe only thing that stops a bad teacher with a gun is a good teacher with a gun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The N.R.A. executive vice-president said, \u201cIn a perfect world, you would have a third armed teacher, in case the second one messes up, but right now I\u2019d settle for two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He blamed anti-gun activists for blocking measures that would allow multiple teachers with guns to shoot at one another and thus keep the nation\u2019s classrooms safe. \u201cIt\u2019s time to stop the madness,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>______________________________________________<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/andy-borowitz-320-e1492615001617.png\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-51101\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/andy-borowitz-320-e1492615001617.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><em>Andy Borowitz is a <\/em>New York Times<em> best-selling author and a comedian who has written for <\/em>The New Yorker<em> since 1998.
