9 May 2018 – <\/em>Calling it \u201cmaybe the worst deal ever<\/em>,\u201d Donald J. Trump said on Wednesday that he is considering pulling the United States out of the United States Constitution.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve seen a lot of bad deals in my life, but this Constitution is a total mess,\u201d <\/em>he said. \u201cWe need to tear it up and start over.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Trump was scathing in his remarks about the two-hundred-and-twenty-nine-year-old document, singling out for special scorn its insistence on three branches of government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe branches thing is maybe the worst part of this deal<\/em>,\u201d he said. \u201cThe first thing we do when we pull out of the Constitution is get rid of two of those branches.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He also called the First Amendment<\/p>\n

\u201csomething that really has to go.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cNo one in his right mind would put something like that in a Constitution,\u201d<\/em> he said. \u201cRussia doesn\u2019t have it. North Korea doesn\u2019t have it. All the best countries don\u2019t have it.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He stopped short of accusing his predecessor, Barack Obama, of writing the United States Constitution, but said, <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s working hard behind the scenes trying to save it, because he knows that the Constitution is very, very bad for me.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Vowing to replace the Constitution with \u201ca new, much, much better Constitution<\/em>,\u201d he acknowledged that there might be some elements of the original document worth salvaging.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to keep the Second Amendment,\u201d <\/em>he said, \u201cand definitely the Fifth.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
