<\/em>A Turkish lawyer filed a criminal complaint today against several <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/Myanmar\" >Myanmar<\/a> officials on charges of committing genocide against <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/Rohingya\" >Rohingya<\/a> Muslims and crimes against humanity in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/Myanmar\" >Myanmar<\/a>\u2019s Rakhine State.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer Hasan Bozda\u015f submitted the complaint against 22 high-ranking officials of the southeast Asian nation to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office, also accusing them of other crimes to be revealed after investigations.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint gave details about the timeline about the crimes against humanity committed in Rakhine state.<\/p>\n<p>It also cited a report of the United Nations Human Rights Council (OHCHR) and a ruling of the International Criminal Court (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/ICC\" >ICC<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/ICC\" >ICC<\/a> on Sept. 18 launched a preliminary investigation into the crimes committed by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/Myanmar\" >Myanmar<\/a> against the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/Rohingya\" >Rohingya<\/a> people.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/ICC\" >ICC<\/a> Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, her office has received a number of communications and reports alleging crimes since the end of 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The preliminary examination will be made on the forced displacement of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/Rohingya\" >Rohingya<\/a> people, including the deprivation of their fundamental rights as well as killing, sexual violence, enforced disappearance, destruction and looting, the prosecutor added.<\/p>\n<p>Since Aug. 25, 2017, nearly 24,000 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/Rohingya\" >Rohingya<\/a> Muslims have been killed by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/Myanmar\" >Myanmar<\/a>\u2019s state forces, according to a report by the Ontario International Development Agency (OIDA).<\/p>\n<p>According to Human Rights Watch, more than 650,000 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/search\/Rohingya\" >Rohingya<\/a> have fled to neighboring Bangladesh to escape mass killings, sexual violence, arson, and other abuses amounting to crimes against humanity by the security forces.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/turkey-lawyer-files-criminal-complaint-against-myanmar-137054\" >Go to Original \u2013 hurriyetdailynews.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>20 Sep 2018 &#8211;
