{"id":13052,"date":"2011-06-20T12:00:08","date_gmt":"2011-06-20T11:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=13052"},"modified":"2011-06-19T15:18:19","modified_gmt":"2011-06-19T14:18:19","slug":"kumi-naidoo-scales-cairns-arctic-oil-rig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2011\/06\/kumi-naidoo-scales-cairns-arctic-oil-rig\/","title":{"rendered":"Kumi Naidoo Scales Cairn&#8217;s Arctic Oil Rig"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a small boat launched from the Greenpeace ship Esperanza Kumi Naidoo, the Executive Director of Greenpeace International crossed into an exclusion zone and scaled a controversial Arctic oil rig 120 km off the coast of Greenland.<\/p>\n<p>The boat driver evaded a Danish navy warship and delivered Kumi to the base of the rig where he climbed 30 metres up the outside of one of the platform&#8217;s giant legs, braving freezing torrents from the rigs water cannons to deliver a petition signed by 50,000 people asking to see Cairn&#8217;s secret oil spill response plan.
