She added that the UK had now arbitrarily-detained the controversial anti-secrecy journalist and campaigner, \u201cpossibly endangering his life\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>More on this\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2019\/04\/1036491\" >here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Libya: clashes intensified in southern Tripoli, UN health agency deploys emergency teams\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/libya-1.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-131469\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/libya-1-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>Clashes have reportedly further intensified in southern parts of the Libyan capital, with fighting in the past 24 hours the heaviest since hostilities began in and around Tripoli.<\/p>\n<p>According to humanitarian partners in the country, families who have become stranded in conflict areas, not only fear for their safety but are also starting to run out of supplies, said the UN Spokesperson, St\u00e9phane Dujarric, briefing reporters on Thursday. He stressed that \u201cemergency service providers are operating with great personal risk, with three medical staff reportedly killed and four first responders reportedly injured.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The World Health Organization (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/\" >WHO<\/a>) has deployed emergency medical teams to help hospitals cope with the casualties, and support surgical staff, in collaboration with the country\u2019s Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/en\/\" >WHO<\/a> plans to deploy additional emergency teams and supplies, to support first-line responders and has activated contingency stocks which were strategically pre-positioned before the fighting began. The agency is also working with partners to support the medical needs of the displaced and migrants,\u201d said Mr. Dujarric.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unocha.org\/libya\" >humanitarian affairs office, OCHA<\/a>, multiple civilian shelters have been set up in various areas of Tripoli, but at least two have already been evacuated, due to intensifying fighting.<\/p>\n<p>The UN continues to call for an immediate humanitarian truce to allow access for emergency services and the voluntary passage of civilians, away from conflict areas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nigeria: Urgent humanitarian aid needed, to support 10,000 forced to relocate\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/nigeria.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-131470\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/nigeria-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, has called on the Government of Nigeria to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to 10,000 women, men and children who were forced to relocate to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, from a town 40 kilometers away.<\/p>\n<p>The civilians were ordered to leave their homes in Jakana town, in the middle of Monday night by the Nigerian military, without any prior warning.<\/p>\n<p>According to the military, the civilians have been relocated to the Bakassi camp for internally displaced people for security reasons, ahead of planned operations in the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entire town of Jakana was emptied, and people were forced to move to Maiduguri with very little time to collect personal belongings,\u201d said Mr, Kallon.
