10 May 2019 – <\/em>At dawn today, supporters of opposition politician Juan Guaid\u00f3,\u00a0who appointed himself president,\u00a0entered the Venezuelan embassy in\u00a0Washington D.C. by force and intimidated volunteers of the ‘Embassy Protection Collective’ (EPC), a U.S. citizens-based solidarity movement which has joined\u00a0human rights defense groups\u00a0Code Pink, Answer Coalition and Popular Resistance.<\/p>\n

Early this morning, Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin gave teleSUR an exclusive update on\u00a0what happened at the Latin American country’s embassy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the middle of the night, two people broke the windows in the basement and broke inside. One of them left voluntarily but we have to get the Secret Service to escort\u00a0the other one out,\u201d Benjamin said and added that none of the intruders were arrested by U.S. authorities, although their actions were clearly illegal.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She also mentioned that Code Pink activists have\u00a0not able to get any food or medicine\u00a0inside the embassy because the \u201cpro-Guaid\u00f3 people are blocking us every time we try to do it and physically attacking us.\u201d\u00a0After each violent attack, however, \u201cthey don\u2019t get arrested either.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, pro-Venezuela activists get brutally attacked for trying to help the defenders in the embassy. Partnership for Civil Rights Fund shared a tweet showing a 70-year old\u00a0supporter\u00a0 and U.S. veteran bleeding from the head for trying to bring a cucumber into the embassy:<\/p>\n

Regarding the lack of electricity inside the Venezuelan embassy, Benjamin maintained\u00a0that the U.S. State Department told the local power company that the building’s owner is Carlos Veccio, \u201cwho is the fake ambassador of the fake government of Juan Guaid\u00f3 … and told them to turn off the electricity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The human rights defender told teleSUR\u00a0that supporters of the Bolivarian people will keep\u00a0having demonstrations outside the embassy even on Mothers’ Day, celebrated Sunday in the U.S.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are asking people to come on Sunday and honor mothers around the world here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Since April 10, the Venezuelan embassy has been protected from inside by EPC volunteers.\u00a0These grassroots human rights defenders have committed themselves to protect the Bolivarian embassy from being taken over by Guaid\u00f3 supporters, who attempted\u00a0to carry out a coup d\u2019etat against President Nicolas Maduro<\/a> on April 30.<\/p>\n

According to EPC reports, the Bolivarian embassy has been surrounded by the U.S. Secret Service, the D.C. police, and Guaid\u00f3 supporters since at least a month ago.<\/p>\n

Just a few hours before the embassy incident, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry again warned that the U.S. is promoting, organizing and financing “an irresponsible campaign aimed at changing the government\u00a0by force,”\u00a0which demonstrates “contempt for sovereignty, peace, and democracy.”<\/p>\n
