World Bank\/Miso Lisanin<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last year, WHO provided support to countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Qatar, Slovenia and Sri Lanka to develop a comprehensive, multi-sectoral public health response to dementia, it said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Reducing the risk of lifestyle choices linked to dementia is one of several areas of action included in WHO\u2019s Global action plan for the public health response to the illness.<\/p>\n<p>Other areas include strengthening diagnosis, treatment and care, with a particular emphasis on online support for carers of people with dementia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDementia carers are very often family members who need to make considerable adjustments to their family and professional lives to care for their loved ones,\u201d said Dr D\u00e9vora Kestel, Director of the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse at WHO. \u201cThis is why WHO created iSupport\u2026an online training programme providing carers of people with dementia with advice on overall management of care, dealing with behaviour changes and how to look after their own health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2019\/05\/1038441?utm_source=UN+News+-+Newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=ee4e02dd3d-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_05_15_12_00&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_fdbf1af606-ee4e02dd3d-105796125\" >Go to Original \u2013 news.un.org<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>14 May 2019 -Key lifestyle choices such as getting regular exercise, not smoking or drinking too much, can reduce the risk of dementia and cognitive decline, the UN health agency said today.
