{"id":137422,"date":"2019-07-15T12:00:45","date_gmt":"2019-07-15T11:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=137422"},"modified":"2019-07-11T08:28:43","modified_gmt":"2019-07-11T07:28:43","slug":"activists-walk-cease-and-desist-order-into-nuclear-weapons-base-in-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2019\/07\/activists-walk-cease-and-desist-order-into-nuclear-weapons-base-in-germany\/","title":{"rendered":"Activists Walk \u201cCease and Desist\u201d Order into Nuclear Weapons Base in Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>10 Jul 2019 \u2014 <em>News advisory on antinuclear protests that <\/em>Voices for Creative Nonviolence <em>co-coordinator Brian Terrell is currently attending in B\u00fcchel, Germany.\u00a0 Included is the &#8220;Treaty Enforcement Order&#8221; presented to B\u00fcchel Air Base today and a photograph of the eleven activists&#8217; entry to the base.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Eleven international peace activists entered the B\u00fcchel Air Base southwest of Frankfurt early this morning to deliver what they called a \u201cTreaty Enforcement Order\u201d declaring that the sharing of US nuclear weapons at the base is a \u201ccriminal conspiracy to commit war crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Upon entering the base\u2019s main gate with a printed \u201ccease and desist order,\u201d they insisted on seeing the base commander to deliver the order in person.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe refuse to be complicit in this crime,\u201d said Brian Terrell of Voices for Creative Nonviolence in Chicago, Illinois. \u201cWe call for the nuclear bombs to be returned to the US immediately. The Germans want these nuclear weapons out of Germany, and so do we.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group included people from Germany, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. All eleven were detained by military and civilian authorities and were released after providing identification. This is the third year in a row that a delegation of US peace activists has joined Europeans and others in protesting the US nuclear weapons at B\u00fcchel. The local group Nonviolent Action for Abolition of Nuclear Weapons (GAAA) convenes the International Action Week, demanding permanent ouster of the US nuclear weapons, cancellation of plans to replace today\u2019s B61s with new hydrogen bombs, and Germany\u2019s ratification of the 2017 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDelivery of the \u2018Cease and Desist Order\u2019 is an act of crime prevention,\u201d said John LaForge, of the US peace group Nukewatch and coordinator of the US delegation. \u201cThe authorities think the entry is a matter of trespass.
