About 69 percent of the attacks were related to attempts to discredit the press.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>\u201cBolsonaro\u2019s Culture Secretary\u00a0paraphrases Nazi Joseph Goebbels\u2019 speech. His\u00a0citation, which reverberated on social networks, occurred in a video that announced the National Arts Award<\/em><\/strong><em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><em>\u201cThe Brazilian art of the next decade will be heroic and national. It will be endowed with a great capacity for emotional involvement and will be equally imperative, since it is deeply linked to the urgent aspirations of our people, or else it will be nothing.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0<\/em><strong>Roberto Alvin, Brazil\u2019s Culture Minister, January 15, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><em>\u201cThe German art of the next decade will be heroic, romantic, objective and free of sentimentality, national with great pathos and equally imperative and binding, or nothing.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2014 <\/em><strong>Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Culture Minister, October 8, 1933<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt;\">httpv:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fQ2F-c8cZM4&amp;feature=emb_logo<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telesurenglish.net\/news\/lula-called-on-bolsonaro-for-his-servility-to-washington--20200108-0009.html\" >far-right President Jair Bolsonaro<\/a> was the author of 121 attacks in 2019, equivalent to 58 percent of the total number of reported cases in the year.<\/p>\n<p>The latest\u00a0example of the Brazilian presidency\u2019s style occurred on Friday when\u00a0 citizens criticized the\u00a0Culture Minister\u00a0Roberto Alvim, who\u00a0had\u00a0previously published a video with clear Nazi connotations.<\/p>\n<p>Bolsonaro immediately posted\u00a0his own\u00a0video to defend his pupil through a threatening message.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cTo that press looking at me: I am above your glasses. Begin to produce truths\u2026 I will not take any action to try to censor you but have shame on your faces.
