{"id":157087,"date":"2020-03-30T12:01:56","date_gmt":"2020-03-30T11:01:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=157087"},"modified":"2020-03-28T09:35:46","modified_gmt":"2020-03-28T09:35:46","slug":"conscience-the-inner-voice-of-the-higher-self","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2020\/03\/conscience-the-inner-voice-of-the-higher-self\/","title":{"rendered":"Conscience: The Inner Voice of the Higher Self"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations has designated 5 April as the International Day of Conscience.\u00a0 The first celebration is this year 2020.\u00a0 An awakened conscience is essential to meeting the challenges which face humanity today as we move into the World Society.\u00a0 The great challenge which humanity faces today is to leave behind the culture of violence in which we find ourselves and move rapidly to a culture of peace and solidarity.\u00a0 We can achieve this historic task by casting aside our ancient national, ethnic, and social prejudices and begin to think and act as responsible Citizens of the World.<\/p>\n<p>The useful press kit prepared by the U.N. information section for the 5 April International Day of Conscience highlights earlier UNESCO and then U.N. General Assembly efforts for the Decade of the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence.\u00a0 A culture of peace gives the broad social framework in which the conscience of each individual can be a guide.<\/p>\n<p>An awakened conscience makes us sensitive to hearing the inner voice that warns and encourages.\u00a0 We have a conscience so that we may not let ourselves be lulled to sleep by the social environment in which we find ourselves but will remain alert to truth, justice, and reason.\u00a0 As the Universal Declaration of Human Rights says in Article 1:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAll human beings are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There is a need to build networks and bridges among Companions of Conscience.\u00a0 As the Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran wrote,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;I believe that there are groups of people and individuals the world over who are kin, regardless of race.\u00a0 They are in the same realm of awareness.\u00a0 This is kinship, only this.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Companions of Conscience create a ground for common discourse and thus a ground for common, life-affirming action.\u00a0 The circle of Companions of Conscience is growing worldwide, and Conscience-based actions are increasingly felt.<\/p>\n<p><em>______________________________________<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Ren\u00e9-Wadlow-e1486137838243.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-55053\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Ren\u00e9-Wadlow-e1486137838243.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"104\" \/><\/a><\/em><em>Ren\u00e9 Wadlow is a member of the <\/em><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/\" >TRANSCEND Network for Peace Development Environment<\/a><\/em><em>.
