The crisis can push millions of vulnerable children into child labour.<\/p>\n<header class=\"page-title\"><\/header>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"small-12-col medium-12-col large-8-col\">\n<div class=\"furniture slider standard-bar\">\n<div id=\"simple-carousel\" class=\"flexslider reposition-carousel\">\n<div class=\"flex-viewport\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ilo.org\/wcmsp5\/groups\/public\/---dgreports\/---dcomm\/documents\/image\/wcms_713929.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"367\" height=\"206\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"slider\" class=\"flexslider has-thumbs\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilo.org\/global\/about-the-ilo\/newsroom\/news\/WCMS_713925\/lang--en\/index.htm\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>2021 declared International Year for the Elimination of Child Labor\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"inset\">\n<p>The UN General Assembly has urged the international community to step up efforts to eradicate forced labour and child labour, and declared 2021 as the Year for the Elimination of Child Labour.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/ilo.org\/infostories\" class=\"slider-img-link\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ilo.org\/wcmsp5\/groups\/public\/---ed_norm\/---ipec\/documents\/image\/wcms_479900.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"207\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Facts and figures:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"furniture  standard-bar\">\n<div class=\"freeform text\">\n<ul>\n<li>Worldwide 218 million children between 5 and 17 years are in employment.<br \/>\nAmong them, <strong>152 million are victims of child labour<\/strong>; almost half of them, <strong>73 million, work in hazardous child labour<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In absolute terms, almost half of child labour (<strong>72.1 million<\/strong>) is to be found in <strong>Africa<\/strong>; <strong>62.1 million<\/strong> in the<strong> Asia and the Pacific<\/strong>; <strong>10.7 million<\/strong> in the <strong>Americas<\/strong>; <strong>1.2 million<\/strong> in the <strong>Arab States<\/strong> and <strong>5.5 million<\/strong> in <strong>Europe and Central Asia<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In terms of prevalence, <strong>1 in 5 children<\/strong> in <strong>Africa <\/strong>(<strong>19.6%<\/strong>) are in child labour, whilst prevalence in other regions is between 3% and 7%: <strong>2.9%<\/strong> in the <strong>Arab States<\/strong> (1 in 35 children); <strong>4.1%<\/strong> in <strong>Europe and Central Asia<\/strong> (1 in 25); <strong>5.3%<\/strong> in the <strong>Americas<\/strong> (1 in 19) and <strong>7.4%<\/strong>\u00a0in <strong>Asia and the Pacific region<\/strong> (1 in 14).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Almost half of all 152 million<\/strong> children victims of child labour <strong>are aged 5-11 years<\/strong>.<br \/>\n42 million (28%) are 12-14 years old; and 37 million (24%) are 15-17 years old.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hazardous child labour<\/strong> is most prevalent among the <strong>15-17 years old<\/strong>. Nevertheless up to a fourth of all hazardous child labour (19 million) is done by children less than 12 years old.<\/li>\n<li>Among 152 million children in child labour, <strong>88 million are boys and 64 million are girls<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>58%<\/strong> of all children in child labour and <strong>62% <\/strong>of all children in hazardous work <strong>are boys<\/strong>.
