{"id":162987,"date":"2020-06-22T12:00:26","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T11:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=162987"},"modified":"2020-12-02T10:08:01","modified_gmt":"2020-12-02T10:08:01","slug":"why-covid-immunity-passports-are-bound-to-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2020\/06\/why-covid-immunity-passports-are-bound-to-fail\/","title":{"rendered":"Why COVID \u201cImmunity Passports\u201d Are Bound to Fail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>16 Jun 2020 &#8211; <\/em>One of the many questionable aspects of the political response to the coronavirus pandemic \u2013 besides lockdowns, contact tracing apps and tracing corps, or mandatory face masks \u2013 is the still discussed idea of \u201cimmunity passports\u201d to regulate participation in work and travel.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Covid immunity passports are bound to fail, simply because antibody tests can detect at most 20% of all infections, as the pioneering research by Professor Onur Boyman <a href=\"https:\/\/swprs.org\/coronavirus-antibody-tests-show-only-one-fifth-of-infections\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has shown<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Boyman\u2019s group found that most people neutralize the new coronavirus with their mucosal (IgA) or cellular (T-cells) immune system while developing only mild symptoms or no symptoms at all. It is for the exact same reason that the new coronavirus is likely up to five times more common \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/swprs.org\/studies-on-covid-19-lethality\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">and less deadly<\/a> \u2013 than previously assumed.<\/p>\n<p>Our esteemed reader, US entrepreneur and noted corona critic Elon Musk, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1272614655580532736\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">already knows this<\/a>.
