His best known works are <em>Memoria del fuego<\/em> (Memory of Fire Trilogy, 1986) and <em>Las venas abiertas de Am\u00e9rica Latina<\/em> (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Open_Veins_of_Latin_America\" title=\"Open Veins of Latin America\" >Open Veins of Latin America<\/a>, 1971) which have been <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Translation\" title=\"Translation\" >translated<\/a> into twenty languages and transcend orthodox <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Genres\" title=\"Genres\" >genres<\/a>: combining <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fiction\" title=\"Fiction\" >fiction<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Journalism\" title=\"Journalism\" >journalism<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Politics\" title=\"Politics\" >political<\/a> analysis, and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/History\" title=\"History\" >history<\/a>.
