Over the years they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards. One day they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Now don&#8217;t get mad at me &#8230; I know we&#8217;ve been friends for a long time &#8230; but I just can&#8217;t think of your name! I&#8217;ve thought and thought, but can&#8217;t remember it. Please tell me what your name is.&#8221; <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared and glared at her. Finally she said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;How soon do you need to know?&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>_______________________________________________<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/dieter-dietrich-fischer-epu.png\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-68323\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/dieter-dietrich-fischer-epu-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/em><em>Dietrich Fischer (1941-2015) from M\u00fcnsingen, Switzerland, got a Licentiate in Mathematics from the University of Bern 1968 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from New York University 1976. Fischer was a MacArthur Fellow in International Peace and Security at Princeton University 1986-88, has taught mathematics, computer science, economics and peace studies at various universities, and been a consultant to the United Nations. He was co-founder, with Johan Galtung, of the <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/\" >TRANSCEND Network for Peace, Development and Environment<\/a> <em>in 1993<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/jokes-logo-e1527068528538.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-102260 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/jokes-logo-e1527068528538.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"67\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades.
