The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, called for Latin American unity in opposition to the Free Trade Agreements (FTA), sponsored by the United States in the region.

\nEverything joins us more than Europe or the United States, except the lack of independence that they have imposed on us for 200 years, stated Fidel Castro in his latest reflection.<\/p>\n

Fidel Castro described as disastrous the Free Trade Agreement the White House tries to impose on Latin America, as it did with Mexico, which in his opinion, would turn the Latin American countries not only into the region of the world where wealth is not fairly distributed, which already is.<\/p>\n

Used cars and other goods displace those from the industry in Mexico, where jobs are lost in cities and the countryside, he noted.<\/p>\n

“Known statistics grow from year to years. More than 10,000 people lose their life every year,” he stated.<\/p>\n

The armed forces, in such social circumstances, are forced to endless and attrition wars, Fidel Castro said.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the situation of violence in Honduras, which is not even a drug-producing country, the leader of the Cuban Revolution said that it is an important strategic base of the U.S. Southern Command.<\/p>\n

What happens there and is already happening in more than one Latin American country is the horrific situation mentioned, from which some countries have started to get out.<\/p>\n

Among them and in the first place, Venezuela, not only because it has considerable natural resources, but also because it has rescued them from the insatiable avarice of foreign multinationals, he said.<\/p>\n

(Venezuela) has sparked off considerable political and social forces capable of making great achievements, Fidel Castro said, adding that when he visited Caracas 12 years ago, on the occasion of Chavez’s presidential inauguration, he was deeply impressed to see how the country emerged phoenix-like from the historic ashes.<\/p>\n
