{"id":171497,"date":"2020-11-02T12:00:54","date_gmt":"2020-11-02T12:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=171497"},"modified":"2020-10-28T04:18:06","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T04:18:06","slug":"communicating-with-each-other-people-birds-and-other-creatures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2020\/11\/communicating-with-each-other-people-birds-and-other-creatures\/","title":{"rendered":"Communicating with Each Other \u2014 People, Birds and Other Creatures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People can speak, they can recite poems<br \/>\n<em>Twinkle Twinkle little Star<\/em><br \/>\n<em>How I wonder what you are<\/em><br \/>\nThey can invent new words to tell who they are<\/p>\n<p>Human languages help people to communicate<br \/>\nExpressions, gestures also enable them to relate<\/p>\n<p>But so many languages make communication difficult<br \/>\nNot only\u00a0that, we want our language to flourish<br \/>\nBe it English, French, Mandarin, Hindi, Spanish<br \/>\nTamil, Malayan, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati<br \/>\nAs well as decreasing speakers of Sindhi<\/p>\n<p>Historically dominant languages were thrust on a captured land<br \/>\nAlmost no one to speak one\u2019s tribal language in Australia, New Zealand<br \/>\nAlso few speakers of Njerep in Nigeria and Liki in Papua Islands<br \/>\nHundreds of tribal tongues, many in India\u2019s Andaman Nicobar Islands<\/p>\n<p>Animals and birds communicate with one another<br \/>\nNo effort at showing who is superior<br \/>\nThe animal grunts or barks the same way globally<br \/>\nA lion from Africa brought to India, roars similarly<\/p>\n<p>Elephants rule the roost in African territory<br \/>\nBut they are butchered for their ivory<\/p>\n<p>Horses were brought from other regions to India<br \/>\nThey neigh as they did earlier, bringing cheer to all<br \/>\nDo they remember their earlier homes \u2014 not at all<\/p>\n<p>Beautiful green parrots \u2014 can learn human lingo<br \/>\nWith other parrots and birds they can do tango<br \/>\nBirds fly high and chirp when they come to their nests<br \/>\nThey take care of their small chicks, also other birds\u2019 chicks<br \/>\nThey feed them, teach them how to fly and do some tricks<\/p>\n<p>Sparrows and woodpeckers coo coo in lilting manner<br \/>\nSo lilting, so musical on the human ear<br \/>\nBird songs keep us happy, smiling and chirpy<br \/>\nWe must learn from these birds how to live together<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/elephant-day-feature.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-171504\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/elephant-day-feature-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/elephant-day-feature-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/elephant-day-feature-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/elephant-day-feature-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/elephant-day-feature-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/elephant-day-feature.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n______________________________________________<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Ravi-P.-Bhatia-150x150-1-e1596524021103.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-166069\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Ravi-P.-Bhatia-150x150-1-e1596524021103.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/em><em>Dr Ravi P Bhatia is a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/\" >TRANSCEND Network for Peace Development Environment<\/a>, an<\/em> <em>educationist, Gandhian scholar and peace researcher.
