9 Apr 2021 – <\/em>Have you ever seen a mainstream news report containing the phrase \u201cthe French regime\u201d? How about\u00a0 \u201cthe British regime\u201d or\u00a0\u201cthe Australian regime\u201d?<\/p>\n

If these phrases look a bit odd, it\u2019s because you\u2019ve never seen them written down before. Ostensibly the word simply means<\/a> \u201ca form of government\u201d or \u201ca government in power\u201d, but it\u2019s generally understood that it\u2019s got a kind of negative connotation to it just because of the way it tends to be used. In theory its meaning is closer to \u201ca bad or authoritarian government\u201d, and in practice by the western media it means \u201ca government which disobeys the dictates of Washington\u201d.<\/p>\n

Just look at some recent examples of the way that word has been used in headlines by the mass media:<\/p>\n

\u201cAmb. Michael McFaul: Putin\u2019s treatment of Navalny proves \u2018this is a regime<\/strong> that is in decay\u2019<\/a>\u201c\u00a0by MSNBC on April 8.<\/p>\n

\u201cAppeasing Cuba\u2019s Regime<\/strong> Didn\u2019t Work<\/a>\u201c, by The Wall Street Journal<\/em> on April 2.<\/p>\n

\u201cSenior GOP Senators Call BBC \u2018Notoriously Sympathetic to the Iranian Regime<\/strong><\/a>\u2018\u201d by Newsweek<\/em> on April 8.<\/p>\n

\u201cHitting Nerve With Kim Jong Un Regime<\/strong> Takes Just a Few Words<\/a>\u201d by The Wall Street Journal<\/em> on March 18.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica Will Only Win When China\u2019s Regime<\/strong> Fails<\/a>\u201d by Foreign Policy<\/em> on March 11.<\/p>\n
