whose voices and rights have been suppressed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Rang de basanti-<br \/>\nColour my saffron,<br \/>\nA phrase embodying Bhagat Singh-<br \/>\nThe &#8220;terrorist&#8221; who fought oppression,<br \/>\nWho wanted to bomb the authoritarians,<br \/>\nThey, not he, were the oppressors,<br \/>\nYet he, not they, was the &#8220;terrorist&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Come, once again,<br \/>\nLet&#8217;s colour our saffron,<br \/>\nIn the red of blood,<br \/>\nAs many are beaten by police,<br \/>\nFor opening their mouths,<br \/>\nFor speaking up!<\/p>\n<p>Time and again,<br \/>\nWe must colour our saffron-<br \/>\nNo one values clothes<br \/>\nUnless the white ambassadors<br \/>\nSplash dirty waters after rain on our clothes,<br \/>\nAs the red lights-<br \/>\nThe celebration of their power flash<\/p>\n<p>Red, must be used, time and again,<br \/>\nTo puncture blood,<br \/>\nTo flash on ambassador cars to send out a message,<br \/>\nPolitical dynasties, families, and the untouchable Mayawati statues,<br \/>\nAre really untouchable,<br \/>\nLarger than life,<br \/>\nLike our Bolywood,<br \/>\nWhere Page 3 adorns<br \/>\nSexy women with pregnant bellies,<br \/>\nWhile in a remote village,<br \/>\nUnborn children refuse to kick,<br \/>\nBut to only howl,<br \/>\nAs mothers-to-be<br \/>\nAre denied milk and food,<br \/>\nTruly, how illiterate they are,<br \/>\nfor not having gone to school<br \/>\nWhere teachers slap you to tell you<br \/>\nThat white kurtas and Gandhi caps &#8211;<br \/>\nPeople who wear them must be Gods.<\/p>\n<p>Today, if you have courage,<br \/>\nThen go and colour the saffron<br \/>\nWith blood and atrocity-<br \/>\nDo you not see,<br \/>\nWe are a nation of deaf,<br \/>\nWhere politicians in the parliament,<br \/>\nUnder the blessing of CCTV watch porn,<br \/>\nDo you not see,<br \/>\nWe are a nation of blind,<br \/>\nBecause the power that sleeps on giant beds,<br \/>\nInside the symbols of the Raj,<br \/>\nConnaught Place and Janpath Road,<br \/>\nRaces behind money,<br \/>\nUnder the aegis of Racecourse Road,<br \/>\nDo you not see,<br \/>\nAfter 5, 10, 20, 100, 500 and then 1000 rupee,<br \/>\nGandhi is tired of being slapped,<br \/>\nAs his face is siphoned off to the Swiss lockers,<br \/>\nAnd basement treasuries!<\/p>\n<p>Dare yourself,<br \/>\nTake of your slippers,<br \/>\nWalk in 44 degrees,<br \/>\nCome, colour the saffron,<br \/>\nWith blood and atrocities!<br \/>\nRang de basanti-<\/p>\n<p>But wait, and<br \/>\nAsk yourself,<br \/>\nDo we,<br \/>\nDo we,<br \/>\nReally need Rang de basanti?<\/p>\n<p>______________________<\/p>\n<p><em>Published after permission from the author.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sumeet Grover:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211;
