The Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna shots will account for roughly $11 billion of that amount with the remaining revenue split equally between J&amp;J, AstraZeneca and Novavax, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/competition-struggling-pfizer-s-vaccine-sales-could-hit-24b-moderna-s-14b-year-analyst\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fierce Pharma reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pfizer\u2019s first quarter revenue <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.pfizer.com\/financials\/quarterly-reports\/default.aspx\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> released May 4 showed $3.5 billion in revenue generated during the first three months of this year by the company\u2019s COVID vaccine \u2014 making it the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/childrenshealthdefense.org\/defender\/fda-authorize-pfizer-vaccine-for-adolescents-experts-question\/\" >biggest source<\/a> of Pfizer\u2019s revenue. The company now anticipates revenue of <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.pfizer.com\/financials\/quarterly-reports\/default.aspx\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$26 billion<\/a> for its COVID vaccine, up from its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/05\/04\/business\/pfizer-covid-vaccine-profits.html\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous estimate<\/a> of $15 billion.<\/p>\n<p>According to a February report by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accountable.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/FINAL-OWS-Insider-Trading-2.pdf\" >Accountable.US<\/a> \u2014 a nonprofit non-partisan public advocate and watchdog organization that monitors public corruption \u2014 executives at five drug companies, including Moderna, Pfizer, J&amp;J, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/childrenshealthdefense.org\/defender\/fda-slams-johnson-johnson-quality-control-issues\/\" >Emergent Biosolutions<\/a> (contracted to manufacture J&amp;J\u2019s vaccine) and Novavax made $250 million dumping company stocks during the first six months of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gao.gov\/products\/gao-21-319\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Operation Warp Speed<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accountable.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/FINAL-OWS-Insider-Trading-2.pdf\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filings<\/a>, from the beginning of September through November 15, 2020, executives and directors at Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax and Emergent, who received government COVID vaccine funding, made stock transactions valued at a net profit of more than $105 million.<\/p>\n<p>In February, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accountable.us\/news\/new-watchdog-calls-on-pharma-ceos-to-freeze-stock-sales-and-release-automatic-trading-plans\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Accountable.US<\/a> sent letters to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accountable.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Accountable-Pharma-to-Pfizer-2.pdf\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pfizer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accountable.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Accountable-Pharma-to-Emergent-BioSolutions-1.pdf\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emergent<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accountable.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Accountable-Pharma-to-Moderna-1.pdf\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moderna<\/a> calling for the release of the 10b5 automatic trading plans used by top executives who made millions of dollars dumping company stock and requested CEOs freeze sales until the SEC could investigate and release updated guidance regarding automatic trading plans for companies receiving taxpayer funding and advance purchase guarantees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Moderna CEO becomes a billionaire, top executives sold stock before key announcements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Moderna entered 2020 as a clinical-stage biotech company with a focus on messenger RNA technology. Now the company is one of three with an authorized COVID vaccine that could land them among the top vaccine players by revenue this year, CEO St\u00e9phane Bancel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/moderna-ceo-bancel-snags-close-to-12m-2020-pay-thanks-to-covid-19-vaccine-work\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in January.<\/p>\n<p>Bancel is 665 on Forbes\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/billionaires\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">annual list<\/a> of the world\u2019s richest people in 2021 and ninth on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beckershospitalreview.com\/rankings-and-ratings\/33-billionaires-in-us-healthcare.html\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Becker\u2019s Hospital Review<\/a> of 35 billionaires in U.S. healthcare. Bancel\u2019s net worth is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/stephane-bancel\/?sh=63695a6d3742\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$5.5 billion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/moderna-ceo-bancel-snags-close-to-12m-2020-pay-thanks-to-covid-19-vaccine-work\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to Fierce Pharma<\/a>, Bancel received a pay package worth $12.85 million in 2020, up from $8.9 million in 2019, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.modernatx.com\/static-files\/8a096ae1-475d-4d32-ae7c-ede0af8066b8\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proxy filing<\/a> in March. The chief executive collected a salary of $950,000, a $1.9 million bonus and stock options worth $9 million.<\/p>\n<p>The total is far below what Bancel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/moderna-ceo-bancel-snags-close-to-12m-2020-pay-thanks-to-covid-19-vaccine-work\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> for 2018, after the company\u2019s $604 million public offering. That year, the CEO\u2019s pay package amounted to $58.6 million, making him one of highest-paid biopharma CEOs that year.<\/p>\n<p>As Moderna continues to negotiate deals for its shot, it\u2019s \u201cnot impossible\u201d that the company\u2019s 2021 sales could eclipse \u201cthe entire revenue of one of the four big vaccine companies,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/moderna-ceo-bancel-snags-close-to-12m-2020-pay-thanks-to-covid-19-vaccine-work\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bancel said<\/a>. The company \u201cmight be one of the top four, top three,\u201d vaccine companies this year, he added.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, Bancel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/moderna-executives-increased-stock-sales-after-coronavirus-vaccine-trial-data\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">came under fire<\/a> when he tripled the number of company shares to be sold through an executive stock plan that was changed just days after the company announced positive early results for its COVID vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>The Moderna CEO sold more than 72,000 Moderna shares in July 2020, generating nearly $4.8 million. That was more than triple the 22,000 shares he had previously scheduled to sell during the same period through the company\u2019s executive trading plan.<\/p>\n<p>In the past month alone, Bancel has sold more than <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/moderna-inc-mrna-ceo-stephane-061501886.html\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">79,000 shares<\/a> of Moderna stock, with his most recent sale generating $2.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>Moderna co-founder and chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/noubar-afeyan\/?list=rtb&amp;sh=400b63aa1d14\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Noubar Afeyan<\/a> has also cashed in on Moderna\u2019s soaring stock price, selling more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/giacomotognini\/2021\/04\/22\/vc-firm-of-moderna-chairman-dumped-14-billion-of-stock-in-two-months\/?sh=47c6a91123ca\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$1.5 billion in shares<\/a> since the World Health Organization declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/11\/11\/933957580\/pfizer-ceo-sold-millions-in-stock-after-coronavirus-vaccine-news-raising-questio#:~:text=The%20chairman%20and%20CEO%20of,stock%20soared%20on%20the%20news.\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to news sources<\/a>, multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/moderna-executives-increased-stock-sales-after-coronavirus-vaccine-trial-data\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">top executives<\/a> at Moderna adopted or modified their stock-trading plans just before key announcements about the company\u2019s vaccine selling tens of millions of dollars in Moderna stock \u2014 even before the company had completed its vaccine trials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, drug company executives have been caught playing games with their stock options,\u201d Kyle Herrig, who heads the government watchdog group Accountable.US, said in an email to CBS MoneyWatch.<\/p>\n<p>Although no insider trading was alleged, the fact that the plans were changed during the pandemic as news was emerging about the company\u2019s closely watched vaccine raised questions about how Moderna executives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/moderna-ceo-executives-made-millions-on-vaccine-announcement\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pocketed millions of dollars<\/a> in early months of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Moderna\u2019s COVID vaccine is almost entirely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/judystone\/2020\/12\/03\/the-peoples-vaccine-modernas-coronavirus-vaccine-was-largely-funded-by-taxpayer-dollars\/?sh=54553bd76303\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funded by U.S. taxpayers<\/a>. Through its COVID vaccine partnership with the U.S. government, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/after-nearly-1b-research-funding-moderna-takes-1-5b-coronavirus-vaccine-order-from-u-s#:~:text=Pharma-,After%20nearly%20%241B%20in%20research%20funding%2C%20Moderna%20takes%20%241.5,coronavirus%20vaccine%20order%20from%20U.S.&amp;text=Through%20its%20COVID%2D19%20vaccine,order%20from%20the%20federal%20government.\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moderna received<\/a> almost $1 billion for research and development of its vaccine and up to $1.525 billion for delivering 100 million doses of its mRNA vaccine, with an option for another 400 million doses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pfizer CEO made questionable stock sales and millions off COVID vaccine<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/PFE:US\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pfizer<\/a> paid chairman and CEO Albert Bourla $21 million in total compensation in 2020 \u2014 a 17% increase from his compensation in 2019 \u2014 as the pharmaceutical giant became the first to gain Emergency Use Authorization for a COVID vaccine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-03-12\/pfizer-ceo-bourla-s-pay-climbed-17-to-21-million-in-2020\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg reported.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bourla\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/pfizer-riding-high-covid-19-vaccine-launch-pays-ceo-bourla-21m-2020\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">compensation package<\/a> included a salary of $1.65 million, cash incentive pay of $5.49 million and long-term incentive awards worth $14 million in the form of Pfizer options that vest over time.<\/p>\n<p>When Albert Bourla officially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/pfizer-new-boss-bourla-nets-17-9m-2019-pay-as-drugmaker-beat-all-financial-targets\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">took over as Pfizer CEO<\/a> at the beginning of 2019, his total compensation jumped 82% to $17.5 million from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/pfizer-riding-high-covid-19-vaccine-launch-pays-ceo-bourla-21m-2020\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$9.85 million<\/a> he made as Pfizer\u2019s COO.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2020, Bourla faced criticism when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/11\/11\/933957580\/pfizer-ceo-sold-millions-in-stock-after-coronavirus-vaccine-news-raising-questio#:~:text=The%20chairman%20and%20CEO%20of,stock%20soared%20on%20the%20news.\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sold $5.6 million worth of stock<\/a> in Pfizer on the same day the pharmaceutical company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2020\/11\/09\/933006651\/pfizer-says-experimental-covid-19-vaccine-is-more-than-90-effective\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> its experimental COVID vaccine was found to be more than 90% effective, prompting stocks to sore.<\/p>\n<p>Bourla sold the stock as part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanbar.org\/groups\/litigation\/committees\/criminal\/practice\/2019\/continued-congressional-interest-insider-trading-and-rule-10b5-1-trading-plans\/#:~:text=In%20general%2C%20Rule%2010b5%2D1,nonpublic%20information%20about%20the%20company\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">controversial<\/a> 10b5-1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/r\/rule-10b5-1.asp\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stock-trading plan<\/a> designed to shield corporate executives from allegations of illegal insider trading. Executives are supposed to adopt these plans only when they are not in possession of inside information that can affect a company\u2019s stock price. The timing of the sale, however, raised questions about what the Pfizer CEO knew and when, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/11\/11\/933957580\/pfizer-ceo-sold-millions-in-stock-after-coronavirus-vaccine-news-raising-questio#:~:text=The%20chairman%20and%20CEO%20of,stock%20soared%20on%20the%20news.\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 19, 2020 Bourla enacted his stock-trading plan, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/78003\/000122520820013318\/xslF345X03\/doc4.xml\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disclosure<\/a> to the SEC. The next day Pfizer issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pfizer.com\/news\/press-release\/press-release-detail\/pfizer-and-biontech-share-positive-early-data-lead-mrna\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a> featuring \u201cadditional Phase 1 safety and immunogenicity data\u201d and confirmed that Pfizer and its German partner, BioNTech, were \u201con track to seek regulatory review\u201d for its vaccine candidate by October.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/accounting.wharton.upenn.edu\/profile\/dtayl\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Taylor<\/a>, an expert in insider trading and an associate professor of accounting at the University of Pennsylvania, closely monitored stock trades by executives at companies developing COVID vaccines. Taylor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/11\/11\/933957580\/pfizer-ceo-sold-millions-in-stock-after-coronavirus-vaccine-news-raising-questio#:~:text=The%20chairman%20and%20CEO%20of,stock%20soared%20on%20the%20news.\" \" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> the close timing between the adoption of Bourla\u2019s stock plan and the press release looked \u201cvery suspicious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s wholly inappropriate for executives at pharmaceutical companies to be implementing or modifying 10b5-1 plans the business day before they announce data or results from drug trials,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/11\/11\/933957580\/pfizer-ceo-sold-millions-in-stock-after-coronavirus-vaccine-news-raising-questio#:~:text=The%20chairman%20and%20CEO%20of,stock%20soared%20on%20the%20news.\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Taylor told NPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/childrenshealthdefense.org\/defender\/pfizers-covid-vaccine-lucrative\/\" >second most lucrative drug<\/a> in the world, Pfizer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/after-nearly-1b-research-funding-moderna-takes-1-5b-coronavirus-vaccine-order-from-u-s#:~:text=Pharma-,After%20nearly%20%241B%20in%20research%20funding%2C%20Moderna%20takes%20%241.5,coronavirus%20vaccine%20order%20from%20U.S.&amp;text=Through%20its%20COVID%2D19%20vaccine,order%20from%20the%20federal%20government.\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">received<\/a> a total of $2.5 billion in public funding for its COVID vaccine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>J&amp;J CEO under fire for $30 million pay package<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Shareholders at J&amp;J <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/jj-shareholders-approve-ceo-gorskys-near-30-mln-pay-plan-2021-04-22\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">approved<\/a> CEO Alex Gorsky\u2019s $29.6 million pay plan for 2020 at the healthcare company\u2019s annual meeting late last month, making him the <a href=\"https:\/\/graphics.wsj.com\/table\/CEOPAY_slice_Pharma_0606\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">third highest paid<\/a> pharmaceutical CEO.<\/p>\n<p>This was a 17% increase from the previous year and 365 times the company\u2019s median annual employee pay of $81,000, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/johnson-johnson-ceo-alex-gorsky-30-million-pay-package-iss-glass-lewis\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Shareholder Services (ISS) estimates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gorsky came under fire <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/childrenshealthdefense.org\/defender\/johnson-johnson-very-bad-month\/\" >earlier last month<\/a> after it was reported the company increased his salary and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/jj-shareholders-approve-ceo-gorskys-near-30-mln-pay-plan-2021-04-22\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">excluded from its calculation<\/a> of stock awards roughly $9 billion tied to the company\u2019s role in the nation\u2019s opioid crisis and for litigation involving asbestos in its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/childrenshealthdefense.org\/defender\/johnson-johnson-why-trust-vaccine\/\" >talc baby powder<\/a> that caused cancer.<\/p>\n<p>The state of Illinois, charitable organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxfamamerica.org\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OxFam<\/a> and several religious organizations filed letters with the SEC opposing Gorsky\u2019s pay and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/johnson-johnson-ceo-alex-gorsky-pay-package-illinois-oxfam\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">urged shareholders<\/a> to \u201cvote no\u201d on the pay proposal during last month\u2019s annual meeting, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/johnson-johnson-ceo-alex-gorsky-pay-package-illinois-oxfam\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Officials in Illinois <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/johnson-johnson-ceo-alex-gorsky-pay-package-illinois-oxfam\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> it was unfair to exclude the billions of dollars the pharmaceutical company paid to settle legal claims related to its role in the opioid epidemic.<\/p>\n<p>Each year <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asyousow.org\/\" >As You Sow<\/a>, a nonprofit that promotes shareholder advocacy on inequality, the environment and other issues, publishes a report on the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asyousow.org\/report-page\/the-100-most-overpaid-ceos-2021\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">100 Most Overpaid CEOs<\/a>\u201d that analyzes the amount of pay that should be expected with performance, actual CEO pay, amount of overpay and percentage of excess pay. The results are calculated by HIP Investor, which analyzes CEO pay amounts to company financial performance.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, Alex Gorsky made $25,365,777, but based on a series of factors that assess financial performance, was overpaid by $12,122,321.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think [Gorsky\u2019s] pay was excessive,\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/johnson-johnson-ceo-alex-gorsky-pay-package-illinois-oxfam\/\" >said<\/a> Rosanna Landis Weaver, CEO program manager at As You Sow. \u201cYou have to treat one-off events whether they are positive or negative in the same way. Under plans detailed in the company\u2019s annual report, Soriot\u2019s basic pay is due to increase from \u00a31.289m to \u00a31.327m, while his variable share-based award will rise from 550% of basic pay to 650%, signalling a payout worth up to \u00a36.5m. His maximum cash bonus is slated to rise from 200% of salary to 250%, adding a further \u00a33.3m.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. investor advisory groups <a href=\"https:\/\/www.issgovernance.com\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ISS<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasslewis.com\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glass Lewis<\/a>, as well as UK counterpart <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pirc.co.uk\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pirc<\/a>, urged investors to vote against the pay policy.<\/p>\n<p>The Investment Association on Monday became the latest city shareholders\u2019 group to put the company on notice of a potential revolt over its pay proposals, The Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2021\/may\/10\/astrazeneca-chief-executive-pay-rise-doubt-investor-vote-pascal-soriot\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. It issued an \u201camber top\u201d warning \u2014\u00a0the second most severe in a traffic light system of alerts about corporate governance.<\/p>\n<p>Neville White, head of responsible investment policy and research at EdenTree Investment Management and AstraZeneca shareholder, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2021\/may\/04\/obscene-bonus-hike-for-astrazeneca-boss-prompts-investor-anger\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described<\/a> the proposed bonus increases as \u201cwrong and ill-judged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White said the pride of how AstraZeneca\u2019s leadership handled the pandemic is tarnished by \u201cproposals to once again escalate executive pay to heights rarely seen in the UK\u201d and encouraged others to vigorously oppose proposals that will damage the company\u2019s reputation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will vigorously oppose these proposals and call upon the AstraZeneca remuneration committee to think again given this will surely damage the company\u2019s reputation at a time when we should be focused solely on its achievements,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2021\/may\/04\/obscene-bonus-hike-for-astrazeneca-boss-prompts-investor-anger\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">White said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, AstraZeneca <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2021\/may\/11\/astrazeneca-investors-boss-bonus-covid-vaccine\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won approval<\/a> for its CEO pay package, which required support from shareholders holding more than 50% of the firm\u2019s stock.
