{"id":187906,"date":"2021-07-12T12:00:35","date_gmt":"2021-07-12T11:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=187906"},"modified":"2021-06-29T08:38:59","modified_gmt":"2021-06-29T07:38:59","slug":"the-numbers-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2021\/07\/the-numbers-game\/","title":{"rendered":"The Numbers Game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Numbers or numerals are very important in our lives<br \/>\nOr should we say even before we can draw a line<br \/>\nA woman gives birth to a baby after nurturing it for months nine<br \/>\nThe baby cries when born \u2014 if not, give the baby a gentle slap<\/p>\n<p>And after the baby comes into this life the nurse tells the father<br \/>\nIt is a girl, no, a boy and she is so cute, she informs all who gather<\/p>\n<p>They weigh the baby \u2014 two or three kilogram weight \u2014 kg<br \/>\nRecently a record was broken by a baby \u2014 he weighed 5 kg<br \/>\nHe broke the world record without knowing it, how sweet<br \/>\nIn future his aunt will keep reminding him about his weight<\/p>\n<p>After birth it is again a game of numbers<br \/>\nAt three years or so, the baby must go to a kindergarten<br \/>\nWhich means garden for kids \u2014 children<br \/>\nAt five a regular school till age seventeen<\/p>\n<p>After education, a job with a fat salary \u2014 a thousand or million<br \/>\nWho to spend this money with \u2014 a wife who knows how to spend<br \/>\nReally spend \u2014 thousand or ten of these for a new robe that fits her<br \/>\nA million for buying some gold or diamond jewellery that glitters<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s stop here \u2014 birthdays are joyful till age of fifty and pimples<br \/>\nAfter which use a cream or skin care to hide the wrinkles<\/p>\n<p>When a child asks your age and you answer sixty years old<br \/>\nInnocently he asks \u2018Were you always so old?\u2019<br \/>\nNo, no but who cares what you were half a century back<br \/>\nYour past is really your past, you must hide the hunchback<\/p>\n<p>Let us stop here, otherwise the <em>TMS<\/em> Editor may perhaps say<br \/>\nI know enough of your past\u2014 give me some news of your future<br \/>\nWho can speak of one\u2019s future<br \/>\nUnless you are an angel or perhaps a Devil?<\/p>\n<p>______________________________________________<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Ravi-P.-Bhatia-150x150-1-e1596524021103.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-166069\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Ravi-P.-Bhatia-150x150-1-e1596524021103.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/em><em>Dr Ravi P Bhatia is a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/\" >TRANSCEND Network for Peace Development Environment<\/a>, an<\/em> <em>educationist, Gandhian scholar and peace researcher.
