It describes the world’s conflicts with an eye to those who are looking for a way out.

27 Jan 2022 – There are 34 wars currently declared in the world; dozens of low-intensity conflicts and situations of crisis; there are 13 UN peacekeeping missions, the permanence of which, often lasting several years, signals states of tension only apparently resolved. But there are also dozens of negotiation steps for the pacification of the planet and often small actions that, from the bottom up, try to indicate alternatives to war. These are the findings of the tenth edition of the Atlas of Wars and Conflicts of the World, an annual publication that each year draws the tragic accounts of conflicts and illustrates their hidden roots. This year, the website of the Atlas of Wars, a project born in Trento by the “Associazione 46° Parallelo”, is doubling with the creation of a website in English. This way, a successful “Italian project” becomes an international instrument for understanding the most tragic phenomenon of human history: wars.

The website www.atlasofwars.com , which from Wednesday, January 26th begins its publications thanks to the support of the Peretti Foundation, is not a replica of the Italian website. It will partly contain articles translated from the Italian analysits, but it will also harbor original correspondence from collaborators scattered around the planet, and a virtual editorial office in London. It will be coordinated by a young researcher, Lucia Frigo. Above all, it will export the famous “conflict files” that have made the Atlas known in Italy. They are pages, this time in English, that explain the reasons behind the conflicts, the origin of crises and their latest developments. The site is already rich in thematic maps and infographics to understand complex phenomena. Naturally, great space will be given to photographs, many by great international photojournalists, thanks to the collaboration with Fabio Bucciarelli, two-time winner of the World Press Photo.

The great quality of the pictures will be emphasized by the launch, at the same time as the site, of the exhibition of the winning reportages of the second edition of WaRS (War and Revolutionary Stories), an international award created by 46mo Parallelo/Atlante delle Guerre with the support of Montura and the collaboration of Intersos and Fondazione Museo Storico del Trentino. More than 160 photojournalists from over 37 countries participated to this edition. The winners’ photos will be displayed in a virtual exhibition opening on January 26, 2022, at 6 p.m. in the AtlantePhotoExpo virtual gallery (available on both websites), a well-visited platform created in 2021 and accessible globally for free. The photos, citing the source, may be reproduced free of charge.

**********************

Interested journalists can request the pdf of the volume at: info@atlanteguerre.it (Italian) or info@atlasofwars.com (English).
