Dedicated to the young men and women executed in Iran for supporting human rights and democracy.<\/em><\/p>\n

unseasonal mid-year rains pour
\na woman takes refuge under a fig
\naway from her country, away from refuge home
\nfrom distance, passing crowds hear of executions and petitions
\nmachinations and protests, dictators and half-cut bodies
\nshe talks intently to a man whose face talks empathy.<\/p>\n

bold and unafraid stories to tell
\nliberated from the day a body found on doorstep
\nliberated from Ayesha, her daughter;
\nAyesha was killed she says
\nbrows move closer, dignity and strength pull them back;
\na girl nineteen, she dreamed of Nikah
\nafter maths college comes to end.<\/p>\n

it was day she joined crowds
\nchanting slogans, youthful freedom fuelling voices
\nlike dragons spewing fire;
\ntwo in head one in neck
\nshot to speak to fight their rights, betraying twin mirror.
\ndaughter’s blood ceaselessly splashes in and out
\nof mother’s heart,
\na responsibility she lives in distant land
\nholding a glossy big album, not of nineteen years,
\npictures of sons and daughters of the execution country
\nsix hundred every year, shot locked split hanged;
\npictures of others trapped on their own land
\nin dreams of refuge, to refuge in life.<\/p>\n

In a land where freedom
\nto live to express to celebrate to demand
\nwill be dreamed without death;
\nwhere lovers meet in open air
\nand kiss, cinema of youthful days not purple red nerves,
\nwhen mothers hear doorbells
\nloud children coming home at dusk not screams,
\nwhere photographs laughter friends food
\nreside in memories of young,
\nwill be dream without death;
\nand in land where religion
\nwould not be used as weapon on its own people.<\/p>\n

this is her dream,
\nshe stands with petitions in hand
\nhoping that sixty or hundred will listen,
\ndraw their names
\nsign calls of seventy four million people
\nwalking alleys of buried footprints.
