{"id":211399,"date":"2022-05-23T12:00:47","date_gmt":"2022-05-23T11:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=211399"},"modified":"2022-05-16T10:51:13","modified_gmt":"2022-05-16T09:51:13","slug":"still-support-we-can-offer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2022\/05\/still-support-we-can-offer\/","title":{"rendered":"Still Support We Can Offer!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We sit helplessly by as opponents to peace<br \/>\nDecimate Ukraine<br \/>\nOne town after another<br \/>\nOn diverse devices, TVs, and radios<br \/>\nForgetful of our shared humanity<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, to our North<br \/>\nAnother dictator<br \/>\nSpews threats<br \/>\nAnd fashions weapons<\/p>\n<p>We know we could be next<br \/>\nAnd we should not stand idly by&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer alone won&#8217;t work<br \/>\nWhat can we do?<br \/>\nHelping Ukraine might help us, too!<\/p>\n<p>As expats,<br \/>\nThough demonstration is illegal,<br \/>\nStill support we can offer:<\/p>\n<p>International petitions we can sign<br \/>\nAnd home governments we can persuade<br \/>\nPeace-promoting causes we can endorse<br \/>\nDonations we can send for humanitarian aid!<\/p>\n<p>Refugees we can protect<br \/>\nActivists and victims we can assist<br \/>\nNonviolent and nonkilling actions we can encourage<br \/>\nHate speech and dehumanizing \u2018Others\u2019 we can resist!<\/p>\n<p>How DO we bring all people together?<\/p>\n<p>Through creative contemplation<br \/>\nWe might imagine compassionate ways<br \/>\nTo mediate conflict<br \/>\nAchieve reconciliation and<br \/>\nFocus on prevention<\/p>\n<p>If only we try,<br \/>\nPeace, nonviolence, and nonkilling,<br \/>\nWe CAN achieve<br \/>\nIn what we think, say, and do.<\/p>\n<p>___________________________________________<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Jocelyn-Wright.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-211490 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Jocelyn-Wright-e1652427448441.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"90\" height=\"131\" \/><\/a>Jocelyn Wright is Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at Mokpo National University, South Korea, where she has served for over a decade.
