They are frustrated and angered by Member States that are working to prop up this illegal and brutal military junta with funding, trade, weapons, and a veneer of legitimacy,\u201d he spelled out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut they are also disappointed by those nations that voice support for them, but then fail to back up their words with action. The stakes could not be higher\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/HRC51?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" >#HRC51<\/a> | Special Rapporteur on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Myanmar?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" >#Myanmar<\/a> Tom Andrews updated the Human Rights Council on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WhatsHappeningInMyanmar?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" >#WhatsHappeningInMyanmar<\/a>: <\/p>\n<p>&quot;Conditions have gone from bad to worse to horrific,&quot; he said. &quot;Many in Myanmar have come to the conclusion that the world has forgotten them, or doesn\u2019t care.&quot; <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/aOFEORuicF\" >pic.twitter.com\/aOFEORuicF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; United Nations Human Rights Council | #HRC55 (@UN_HRC) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UN_HRC\/status\/1572616836600201216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" >September 21, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>War crimes<\/h2>\n<p>The Myanmar military is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity daily, including murder, sexual violence, torture, and the targeting of civilians, Mr. Andrews continued.<\/p>\n<p>And conflict is spreading throughout the country as increasingly more civilians take up arms against the junta.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, a humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding because military leaders are obstructing aid deliveries to displaced populations and communities they perceive to be aligned with pro-democracy forces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUntold numbers of innocent people have been left without access to food, medicine, and the means to survive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2>Failed response<\/h2>\n<p>Observing that the international response has failed, the UN expert said that \u201cfirst and foremost,\u201d Member States must more forcefully deprive the junta of revenue, weapons, and the legitimacy it needs to attack the Burmese and suppress their democratic aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany in Myanmar have come to the conclusion that the world has forgotten them, or simply doesn\u2019t care.
