I’m depressed and hallucinating again,
\nand need my doctor’s help.
\nI see things on TV
\nthat aren’t really there,
\nor at least I hope not\u2014
\nStrange bursts of light on the dark screen
\nover some place they call Kabul,
\nwhich as far as I can tell
\nis not in Kansas.
\nI see bearded men in turbans
\nwho seem angry with me.
\nI see grim workers in bulky clothing and odd hats
\npicking through mounds of dusty rubble
\nin what the announcer claims
\nis downtown New York.
\nAt the commercial break
\nI’m told that depression
\nis a biological illness,
\nand I’m reassured by the hearty announcer
\nthat Prozac will cure me.
\nBecause I’m such a coward
\nI’m grateful to be living
\nin this brave new world
\nwhere doctors really care,
\nand I must say that
\nwhen my TV plays tricks on me
\neven the look of those pretty little pills
\ncheers me right up.<\/p>\n
