In his\u00a0speech before the congress<\/a>\u00a0at his January 1 inauguration, Lula\u00a0he stressed that everyone has the \u201cright to a dignified life, without hunger, with access to employment, health, education.\u201d He said his \u201clife mission\u201d is to guarantee that every Brazilian has three meals a day.<\/p>\n

As president, Lula said he is a \u201crepresentative of the working class\u201d who \u201cpromotes economic growth in a sustainable way and to the benefit of all, especially those most in need.\u201d He committed himself to the \u201cwidest social participation, including workers and the poorest in the budget.\u201d3 Jan 2023 – <\/em>Lula da Silva has returned as president of Brazil, the world\u2019s sixth-most populous country. This will cause a major geopolitical shift.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur first actions aim to rescue 33 million people from hunger and rescue from poverty more than 100 million Brazilian men and women, who have borne the hardest burden of the project of national destruction that ends today,\u201d Lula added, condemning the economic crisis left behind by Bolsonaro.<\/p>\n

Lula was a co-founder of the BRICS bloc, bringing together Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.<\/p>\n

In his inauguration speech, Lula called for \u201cstrengthening the BRICS\u201d bloc, as well as deepening Brazil \u201ccooperation with African countries.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a significant reversal compared to Bolsonaro, President Lula also urged \u201cthe resumption of South American integration\u201d, through the \u201crevitalization\u201d of regional institutions like UNASUR and Mercosur.<\/p>\n

Bolsonaro only came to power in the first place due to two US-backed coups against Lula\u2019s left-wing Workers\u2019 Party: the overthrow of President Dilma Rousseff in 2016 and the subsequent imprisonment of Lula in the lead-up to the 2018 election, on false charges that were subsequently expunged by the Brazilian supreme court and\u00a0condemned by the United Nations Human Rights Committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Soon after he entered office thanks to US meddling,\u00a0Bolsonaro visited CIA headquarters<\/a>. He also dedicated himself to sabotaging institutions of Latin American integration, withdrawing Brazil from UNASUR.<\/p>\n

In contrast, as a symbol of his commitment to the Patria Grande (the project of Latin American unity), Lula held the flag of Mercosur waving alongside that of Brazil at his inauguration.<\/p>\n
