Reviving the Spirit of Bandung and Panchsheel"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI hate the US empire, and I love the US republic<\/em>.\u201d &#8212; Johan Galtung<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Circles evoke mutual acceptance, self-respect, and constructive collaboration.\u00a0 Straight lines can divide.\u00a0 Consider the popular social game \u201ctug-of-war\u201d, whereby two teams each hold opposite ends of a long rope centered on a marking on the ground.\u00a0 They then pull until the stronger team causes the weaker team to cross that center point.\u00a0 The triumphant winners cheer, while the disappointed losers hang their heads, and laugh it off.\u00a0 It\u2019s only a game after all.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s another version of this game, virtually unknown:\u00a0 The ends of the long rope are tied together to form a circle on the ground.\u00a0\u00a0 People sit on the ground around the rope circle and grasp it tightly with both hands.\u00a0 The challenge is for everyone to stand up at the same time without letting go of the rope.\u00a0 We are so conditioned to seek win-lose competitions that some might say, where\u2019s the fun in that?\u00a0 But try it, and you\u2019ll see it\u2019s not so easy, yet when successful, everyone can rejoice with a sense of accomplishment!<\/p>\n<p>What if one team in the competitive version doesn\u2019t play fair, using a hidden machine to amplify the strength of its members?\u00a0 We see this today with the military-monetary apparatus of the Anglo-American empire aiming to pull any nation that defies its hegemony off balance.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cynthiachung.substack.com\/p\/the-special-relationship-how-the\" >Cynthia Chung<\/a> contends the British have reconquered its former rebellious offspring, using the US\/UK \u201cspecial relationship\u201d to establish a renewed empire. Economic colonization continues, backed up by financial networks, covert CIA\/MI6 operations and hundreds of US military bases<a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[i]<\/a> that dot the globe in over 85 countries.\u00a0 The sun still never sets on the modern Anglo-American empire.<\/p>\n<p>The United States republic, established with a robust constitution to ensure fairness and sovereignty, has seen its founding principles repeatedly subverted.\u00a0 After killing public banking advocate Alexander Hamilton in 1804, British agent Aaron Burr set up the private Bank of Manhattan, birthing Wall Street as a US tentacle of the City of London, the one square mile opaquely governed entity within the UK capital, whose financial empire spans the globe, including numerous secretive tax havens<a href=\"#_edn2\" name=\"_ednref2\">[ii]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Following Franklin Roosevelt\u2019s 1945 death under questionable circumstances (there was never an autopsy), his vision of peaceful co-existence and providing low-interest loans without conditionalities to countries for building their own resilience was hijacked, resulting in a neo-colonial resource grab via the IMF and World Bank that has left many nations deeply indebted and impoverished.\u00a0 Churchill and Truman <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sputniknews.com\/20230305\/churchills-iron-curtain-speech-in-perspective-1107974686.html\" >declared the Cold War<\/a> in 1946, transforming the Soviet Union overnight from ally to enemy.<\/p>\n<p>The US today bears the face of the empire while welcoming collusion of its progenitor in countless nefarious deeds.\u00a0\u00a0 UK\u2019s MI6 helped create the notorious White Helmets, posing as \u201ccivil defense\u201d but in fact aligned with US backed terror groups in Syria, and lately being callously used to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/beeley.substack.com\/p\/the-aftermath-of-syrian-earthquake\" >sabotage<\/a> Syria under cover of \u201cearthquake relief\u201d.\u00a0 One year ago, when Russia and Ukraine were on the verge of finalizing a peace agreement, UK\u2019s then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson flew to Kiev to scuttle the deal and insist Ukraine keep on fighting.\u00a0 Azerbaijan\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Stella_Assange\/status\/1390342760176181251\" >President Aliyev<\/a> replied to an accusatory question about press freedom posed by a BBC reporter by laying bare the hypocrisy of UK subjecting Julian Assange to imprisonment and torture for his journalistic activities (that exposed US war crimes).<\/p>\n<p>Its perceived <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2023\/03\/us-exceptionalism-and-the-wars-in-syria-and-ukraine\/\" >exceptionalism<\/a> has justified US efforts to exert control over numerous other countries via coup d\u2019\u00e9tat, assassination, military invasion, covert subversion, election tampering or attempts thereof.\u00a0 Some examples within my lifetime are Angola, Argentina, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2014\/oct\/23\/gough-whitlam-1975-coup-ended-australian-independence\" >Australia<\/a>, Belarus, Brazil, Chile, Congo, Cuba, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Iran, Italy, Korea, Libya, Nicaragua, Peru, Russia, Rwanda, Syria, Uganda, Ukraine, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yugoslavia, and no doubt more. What other country has such a track record?<\/p>\n<p>Other nations have found ways to resist US\/UK hegemonic impulses.\u00a0 One <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cynthiachung.substack.com\/p\/the-special-relationship-how-the\" >antidote<\/a> to imperialism appeared in the often forgotten 1955 Bandung Conference, precursor to the non-aligned movement of the Cold War, held in Indonesia, where more than half the world\u2019s population was represented in their call for the right to self-determination.\u00a0 Participants included Afghanistan, Burma, Cambodia, Ceylon, China, Cyprus, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gold Coast, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, South and North Vietnam, and Yemen.<\/p>\n<p>It aimed to promote Afro-Asian economic and cultural cooperation and to oppose colonialism or neo-colonialism by any nation, inspired by the spirit of Panchsheel, or Five Principles of Co-existence:\u00a0 mutual respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty, mutual non-aggression, mutual non-interference, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful co-existence.<\/p>\n<p>The US has tried to paint Russia as the sole evil-doer in Ukraine, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2023\/02\/the-ukraine-war-viewed-from-the-global-south\/\" >Global South<\/a> is not buying it.\u00a0 They are increasingly fed up with the Anglo-American empire throwing its weight around.\u00a0 Multiple General Assembly resolutions to condemn Russia\u2019s actions received only minority support of the world\u2019s population.\u00a0 Uganda\u2019s foreign minister Jeje Odongo observed,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c<em>We were colonized and forgave those who colonized us. Now the colonizers are asking us to be enemies of Russia, who never colonized us. Is that fair? Not for us.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mfa.gov.cn\/eng\/zxxx_662805\/202302\/t20230224_11030713.html\" >China\u2019s position<\/a> on a resolution for Ukraine recalls the principles of the <strong>Bandung Conference<\/strong> and reflects <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.counterpunch.org\/2023\/02\/27\/the-global-south-refuses-pressure-to-side-with-the-west-on-russia\/\" >points raised by Global South<\/a> leaders who are resisting <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/covertactionmagazine.com\/2023\/03\/06\/with-us-or-against-us-fails-in-munich-and-bengaluru-as-u-s-tries-offer-they-cant-refuse\/?\" >US bullying<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Even a major humanitarian disaster like the recent earthquake in Syria and Turkey couldn\u2019t soften the ice-cold heart of the West.\u00a0 As of early March, who sent <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mideastdiscourse.com\/2023\/02\/15\/the-syrian-earthquake-has-united-the-arab-world\/\" >aid to Damascus<\/a> (for all of Syria, not just the corner of Syria that the US occupies and from where steals its oil)?: Algeria, Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, China, Cuba, Cyprus, Hungary, Iran, Jordan, Libya, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Turkmenistan, Tunisia and Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p>And who didn\u2019t?\u00a0 The US, EU and all US allies including Canada sent nothing for the severely damaged zones of Latakia and Aleppo.<\/p>\n<p>US attempts to cripple Russia economically are backfiring, as BRICS expands, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Eurasian Economic Union bolster trade with Russia and work on developing a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thecradle.co\/article-view\/20532\/global-south-gold-backed-currencies-to-replace-the-us-dollar\" >new global trading currency<\/a> based on a combination of national currencies and commodity values: a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/risingtidefoundation.net\/2023\/03\/04\/breaking-from-cycles-of-destruction-by-leaping-to-a-multipolar-future\/\" >multi-polar<\/a>, cooperative finance model to phase out the unipolar petrodollar hegemony of the Anglo-American banking cartel. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blackagendareport.com\/index.php\/us-shoots-itself-foot-africa\" >Africa<\/a> is pivoting away from the US, and joins <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/libya360.wordpress.com\/2023\/02\/28\/building-unity-against-imperialism-in-the-21st-century\/\" >growing worldwide efforts<\/a> to build unity against imperialism in the 21st century, redirecting resources to improving living conditions rather than building weapons, killing people and exacerbating hostilities.<\/p>\n<p>Neither US nor UK rulers can seemingly bear the notion of existing on an equal footing with other countries, allowing them to determine their own policies and leaders, and offering to trade and collaborate in mutually beneficial ways.\u00a0 Yet their populations, and those of their EU allies, who also pay the price for empire, would no doubt embrace this.\u00a0 In recent months protests in the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/coronawise.substack.com\/p\/signs-of-political-evolution\" >US<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thegrayzone.com\/2023\/02\/27\/europeans-protest-natos-proxy-war\/\" >Europe<\/a> against escalating warfare have proliferated.<\/p>\n<p>Before long, the US may have no other choice than accept is role as one republic among many in the global family of nations.\u00a0 And why not?\u00a0 Look at the example of the Habsburg Empire that dominated and exploited much of Central and Eastern Europe for centuries, with forays into Mexico.\u00a0 Following World War I, its power center in Vienna was reduced to capital city of the small republic of Austria, where life indeed goes on, and not too badly at that.\u00a0 Austria should, however, consider re-asserting its neutrality, which it dropped last year in order to deepen its friendship with the US and NATO.<\/p>\n<p>Friends don\u2019t let friends drive drunk. \u00a0US leadership has been drunk on power-grabbing for a long time.\u00a0 Germany is being exposed as an impotent vassal state of the US, remaining silent when its Yankee \u201cfriend\u201d stabbed it in the back by blowing up the Nord Stream gas pipelines, \u00a0co-owned by Germany and Russia, with help from another \u201cfriend\u201d, Norway, as legendary journalist <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/seymourhersh.substack.com\/p\/how-america-took-out-the-nord-stream\" >Seymour Hersh<\/a> has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Leftist politicians <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/rumble.com\/v27rlj8-system-update-31.html?utm_source=substack&amp;utm_medium=email\" >Sahra Wagenknecht<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sputniknews.com\/20221128\/german-statesman-slams-eu-leaders-spinelessness-demands-natos-dismemberment-closure-of-us-bases-1104796406.html\" >Oskar Lafontaine<\/a>, along with arms control advocate <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xOhdd5cvR90\" >Scott Ritter<\/a>, have called on Germany to have some self-respect, assert its sovereignty and promote peace rather than war-mongering.\u00a0 Lafontaine advocates a revival of Willy Brandt\u2019s constructive d\u00e9tente policies and the removal of all US military bases from German soil.<\/p>\n<p>A month after Hersh\u2019s expos\u00e9 (ignored by mainstream corporate Western media), the New York Times, Washington Post, London Times and Germany\u2019s Die Zeit published a nonsensical <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2023\/03\/08\/as-bakhmut-falls-us-may-turn-from-ukraine-starting-with-pipeline-story\/\" >alternative explanation<\/a> of the Nordstream sabotage involving a few \u201cpro-Ukrainian\u201d individuals, affirming US-German bonds and hinting they may soon abandon their \u201cfriend\u201d, Ukraine, which appears increasingly to be losing against Russia.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/TRANSCEND_manual.pdf\" > TRANSCEND Method<\/a> of peaceful conflict transformation, as formulated by Johan Galtung, involves identifying the legitimate goals of each conflict party and then finding creative ways to meet all of those goals.\u00a0 To be legitimate, a goal must be mutually applicable to all parties.\u00a0 As the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, a major opportunity for applying this method was neglected, but it\u2019s not too late to try again.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_102239\" style=\"width: 394px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/conflict_diagram-galtung.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" href=\"https:\/\/natyliesbaldwin.com\/2023\/01\/tass-medvedchuk-publishes-first-article-in-russian-daily-on-situation-in-ukraine-after-swap\/\" >Viktor Medvedchuk<\/a> views the genesis of the current conflict in differing goals of the US and Russia after the Cold War.\u00a0 The US claimed victory and saw Moscow as the loser, laying claim<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cto <\/em><em>the territories of the former Soviet Union and the Socialist block [as] legitimate spoils of war of the United States and NATO\u2026.
