\nNot given a second thought
\nAt a mistaken address<\/p>\n

What is His name,
\nThis boy in critical condition?
\nI heard He was an honors student and talented musician
\nOnly 16 years old<\/p>\n

Wounded by bullets, just narrowly\u00a0escaped
\nWhat raced through His mind
\nAs He struggled to find
\nHelp
\nHouse after house after house?<\/p>\n

In ER, under observation,
\nWhat relief did He feel
\nLearning His privileged gunman got bail
\nAfter 2 hours in\u00a0jail?<\/p>\n

And upon hearing the \u201cNot Guilty\u201d plea on trial
\nAll the while
\n(Re)living the violation of His human right
\nTo a safe and trauma-free life?<\/p>\n

His recovery, however ‘miraculous’
\nIs not complete
\nWill not be replete
\nUntil justice is ensured, protection guaranteed<\/p>\n

A lack of social conscience
\nA failure to prevent violence
\n\u2013 all forms\u00a0\u2013
\nAnd evasion of responsibility
\nCan only divide;
\nIt’s a prescription for collective suicide<\/p>\n

We must rise up
\nFor peace<\/p>\n
