Dr. Melissa McCann raised more than $110,000 to crowdfund the case, which accuses the Australian government of negligence related to the approval and monitoring of COVID-19 vaccines.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

27 Apr 2023 – <\/em>At least 500 Australians have already joined a \u201clandmark\u201d COVID-19 vaccine injury class action lawsuit<\/a> filed this week against the Australian government<\/a> and the medicines regulator seeks redress for those allegedly injured or left bereaved by the COVID-19 vaccines.<\/p>\n

The suit accuses the Australian government<\/a>, the country\u2019s Therapeutic Goods Administration<\/a> (TGA) and Department of Health and Aged Care<\/a>, and a number of senior public servants of negligence related to the approval and monitoring of COVID-19<\/a> vaccines, breach of statutory duty and misfeasance in public office.<\/p>\n

The action was filed in the Federal Court of Australia, New South Wales Registry.<\/p>\n

According to the lawsuit<\/a>, the respondents approved the vaccines \u201cwith no proper or reasonable evidentiary or logical basis to reasonably determine the Vaccines to be safe, effective and possessing a positive risk-benefit profile.\u201d<\/p>\n

Natalie Strijland<\/a>, the litigator who filed the suit, said in a statement<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe action will argue that the Therapeutic Goods Administration did not fulfil their duty to properly regulate the Covid-19 vaccines, resulting in considerable harm and damage to Australians.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The suit alleges the government \u201cacted negligently in approving the vaccines and also by failing to withdraw them\u201d based upon the \u201cknown evidence\u201d of risk.<\/p>\n

\u201cAustralians who have experienced a serious adverse event following Covid-19 vaccination are invited to step forward and register for this class action,\u201d Strijland said.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Aged Care said that the department \u201cis aware\u201d of the lawsuit<\/a> and that \u201cas the matter is before the court it is not appropriate to comment further.<\/p>\n

Class actions provide \u201ca path to justice\u201d for people who may not have the resources to file a court claim on their own, said Alison Bevege<\/a>, a journalist who has written for Reuters and Daily Mail, in an April 26 Substack post.<\/p>\n

Those injured by COVID-19 vaccines have been \u201cignored, denied, belittled and marginalised,\u201d Bevege added.<\/p>\n

Australian doctor crowdsourced $110,000 to bring class action suit<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Melissa McCann<\/a>, a general practioner who also holds a Graduate Certificate of Allergic Diseases, raised more than $110,000 to crowdfund the case<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the lawsuit, McCann tweeted:<\/p>\n
