\nHeadless hounds in our nightmares huddled shivering under US flags
\nbeneath a night sky whose stars were replaced by satellites and drones.<\/p>\n

Headless hounds dashing voicelessly past buzzsigns flashing BUY BUY BUY
\nand buzzscreens shouting FEAR FEAR FEAR,
\npast the harmless homeless and overdosing angels,
\npast the skyscraper soul siphons and sane street schizophrenics,
\npast roadkill dreamguides and the freeway beasts who feed on them,
\npast suburban window watchers with opiate eyes,
\npast the cheering liberals who proudly support their hunt
\n(they make empire automatons of all sorts you know).<\/p>\n

In this land we worship headless gods,
\ngods with logos instead of faces,
\ngods with quarterly statements instead of minds,
\ngods with profit margins instead of conscience,
\ngods who are legally required to act without morality,
\ngods who devour unthinkingly and destroy unfeelingly,
\ngods who eat ecosystems and shit suffering,
\nour gods have no heads and now neither do their soldiers.<\/p>\n

We lurch headlessly, mindlessly, heartlessly, unconsciously
\ntoward wherever it is we are going
\nlike robots running a program written by a long-dead man
\nfor reasons nobody can remember.
\nHeadless hounds where our rights should be.
\nHeadless hounds where our heads should be.<\/p>\n

On an old wooden fencepost there sits a large crow.
\nIt looks you in the eye
\nand stares without moving,
\nand just as you find yourself growing restless and uncomfortable,
\nyou remember something ancient.
\nSomething intimate.
\nSomething that has more relevance to you
\nthan any thought you’ve ever had.<\/p>\n

You sit here, you and the crow,
\nand you remember where you came from.<\/p>\n
