To date, twenty-three countries have submitted formal applications for membership.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>23 Aug 2023 &#8211; <\/em>South African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Naledi Pandor, reported on Wednesday that BRICS leaders reached consensus on the bloc&#8217;s enlargement by approving a document enshrining guidelines and principles in this regard.<\/p>\n<div class=\"txt_newworld\">\n<blockquote><p><strong>RELATED<\/strong><em><strong>:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telesurenglish.net\/news\/BRICS-Leaders-Support-the-Expansion-of-the-Bloc-20230823-0014.html\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> BRICS Leaders Support the Expansion of the Bloc<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;We have reached an agreement on the issue of expansion. We have a document that we have approved that sets out guidelines and principles, processes for considering countries that want to become members of BRICS. &lt;&#8230;&gt; That is very positive,&#8221; the senior diplomat told Radio Ubuntu radio station.<\/p>\n<p>According to Pandor, the document will be presented this Thursday during the Brics Plus Dialogue, a complementary body that, together with the Brics Africa Outreach, includes countries from the Global South.<\/p>\n<p>The foreign minister noted that it will be up to BRICS leaders to decide which candidate countries will eventually join the platform.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udd25\u201cWe have agreed on the matter of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BRICS?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" >#BRICS<\/a> expansion\u201d \u2014 Naledi Pandor, South Africa&#39;s foreign minister!<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow, we will find out the details. So far, twenty-three countries have submitted formal membership applications: Algeria, Argentina, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela and Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>According to insider information, between three and five countries could be admitted this year to BRICS.
