Johan just turned 93. A few weeks ago, Antonio C. S. Rosa,\u00a0Marilyn Langlois and I\u00a0spent precious time together bonding in Porto, Portugal where Antonio lives.<\/p>\n<p>He has been Johan Galtung\u2019s closest associate, and through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/\" >TMS<\/a> he singlehandedly keeps TRANSCEND alive with often problematic financial support.\u00a0\u00a0Marilyn and I, TR Conveners for U.S. East and West Coast respectively, were charged by Johan to create a Galtung Institute and sell his books in the USA.<\/p>\n<p>With the world now gripped with a paradigm and a deep culture that Johan calls <em>DMA-Dualism,\u00a0Manichaeism,\u00a0Armageddon<\/em>, his\u00a0life\u2019s work is more needed than ever, as are his <em>Analysis, Diagnosis, Prognosis <\/em>and<em>\u00a0Therapy<\/em> through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2017\/11\/conflict-transformation-by-peaceful-means-the-transcend-method\/\" ><em>TRANSCEND Method<\/em><\/a> of conflict transformation.<\/p>\n<p>There is minimal awareness and understanding of the field of \u201cconflict resolution.\u201d There is a belief that it doesn\u2019t work and such and such conflict cannot be resolved. We need to raise consciousness and make a distinction with the approach of \u201cconflict transformation,\u201d which creates a new reality that addresses the legitimate goals of all parties. Perhaps this conflict cannot be resolved; it can only be transformed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_246534\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_0219-scaled.jpeg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-246534\" class=\"wp-image-246534 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG_0219-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-246534\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Johan Galtung &#8211; October 2023<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We invite all guest editorialists and friends of TRANSCEND to think about the value of this body of work and how we can promote it more widely and sustain it financially. We are free to re-envision our structure and practices. For example, Johan chose for us to be a <em>network<\/em> of conflict transformation practitioners, not an <em>organization<\/em>. He did not agree to make official statements on current events. Although we sold books from TRANSCEND University Press, he did not wish to sell e-books. We could rethink some of these.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some ideas. Please revise and\/or add your own. You may post your replies in <strong>Join the Discussion!<\/strong> below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify a core group &#8211; including the guest editorialists and other people with affinity to Johan;<\/li>\n<li>Let\u2019s plan an online, zoom tribute for Johan;<\/li>\n<li>Hold a zoom organizing meeting to strategize and explore ideas;<\/li>\n<li>Actively expand the readership of TMS through all of our networks, and invite contributions;<\/li>\n<li>Select the best, most accessible of Johan\u2019s books and writings and find ways to promote them;<\/li>\n<li>Set up a way to sell e-books and hard copies. Many TRANSCEND University Press books exist in PDF format and can possibly be sold as e-books and\/or Print on Demand;<\/li>\n<li>Select and organize videos of Johan and categorize in ways they can be used in classes or workshops;<\/li>\n<li>Revive TRANSCEND Peace University and develop some core courses. The Learn Desk (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.learndesk.us\" >https:\/\/www.learndesk.us<\/a>) is a platform that we can use to create courses and also sell e-books (without the commission of Amazon) and generate income;<\/li>\n<li>Find an\u00a0administrative\u00a0person to help with this;<\/li>\n<li>Hold monthly zoom events analyzing current events from the TRANSCEND perspective;<\/li>\n<li>Create small modules to get Johan\u2019s work into curricula of conflict studies programs, graduate and undergraduate, as well as programs in international relations, political science, and so on;<\/li>\n<li>Hold a major conference on Johan\u2019s lifetime achievements, the history, legacy and future of conflict transformation;<\/li>\n<li>Write statements on current events and\u00a0crises as they arise\u00a0from a TRANSCEND\u00a0perspective;<\/li>\n<li>Embed\u00a0this body of work in think tanks and other organizations;<\/li>\n<li>Find ways to reorganize and build a presence and a new platform redesigning the website to integrate all of the above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/logo-transcend.png\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-99517\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/logo-transcend.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><em>_____________________________________________<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/diane-perlman-e1612677245534.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-178851\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/diane-perlman-e1612677245534.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a> Diane Perlman, PhD\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0is a clinical and political psychologist, devoted to applying knowledge from psychology, conflict studies and social sciences to designing strategies and policies to reverse nuclear proliferation, to drastically reduce terrorism, reduce enmity, and to raise consciousness about nonviolent strategies for tension reduction and conflict transformation. She is a visiting scholar at the School for <\/em><em>Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University, is active in\u00a0Psychologists for Social Responsibility,<\/em>\u00a0<em>the <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/\" ><em>TRANSCEND Network for Peace Development Environment<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em>\u00a0<em>and on the Global Council of Abolition 2000.
