30 Oct 2023 – A leaked document from the Israeli Ministry of Intelligence to an Israeli news site today lays out a plan to transfer more than 2 million Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt\u2019s Sinai desert. [Moses, 13th century BCE, Redux]<\/span><\/span>

The document from the Ministry of Intelligence is being downplayed by Israeli officials, who are saying it is not being actively considered while the ground operation is underway. \u00a0The document was first published in Hebrew by the news website Sicha Mekomit.\u00a0<\/em>The article\u2019s blurb says:<\/p>\n

\u201cA document on behalf of the Ministry of Intelligence, the full content of which is\u00a0published here for the first time, recommends the forced transfer of the population of\u00a0the Gaza Strip to Sinai permanently, and calls for the international community to be\u00a0harnessed for the move. The document also suggests promoting a \u2018dedicated campaign\u2019\u00a0for the residents of Gaza that will \u2018motivate them to agree to the plan.’\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The news site\u2019s source said the Ministry\u2019s \u201cpersonnel stand behind these recommendations\u201d but that they are \u201c<\/span>not based on military intelligence\u201d and are only used as \u201ca basis for discussions in the government.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

The Times of Israel<\/em> reported:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe document is being downplayed by government officials, with the Prime Minister\u2019s Office telling Haaretz that it represents \u2018initial thoughts\u2019 on the issue, which is currently not being considered by authorities focused on the war effort and not the day after.<\/p>\n

The document, which is dated October 13, calls for the civilian population to be moved to tent cities in northern Sinai, and eventually the building of permanent cities and the opening of a humanitarian corridor. The plan includes a several-kilometer-wide \u2018sterile\u2019 buffer zone inside Egypt, to ensure the population cannot settle on Israel\u2019s borders.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
