Culture includes the arts, traditions and customs of a country or region, as well as the wisdom, values, lifestyles and trends of the people living there. In order to build a peaceful world, we need to acknowledge and respect each other&#8217;s cultures. What aspects of the culture in your country or region do you take pride in? How can youth make the most of them to create a better future?<\/p>\n<p><b>Guidelines:<br \/>\n<\/b><br \/>\n1. \u00a0 \u00a0Essays may be submitted by anyone up to 25 years old (as of June 30, 2013) in one of the following age categories:<br \/>\na) Children (ages up to 14) \u00a0b) Youth (ages 15 &#8211; 25)<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0 \u00a0Essays must be 700 words or less in English, French, Spanish or German; or 1600 characters or less in Japanese, typed or printed.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0 \u00a0Essays must have a cover page indicating (1) category (Children or Youth) (2) essay title (3) your name (4) address (5) phone number (6) e-mail (7) nationality (8) age as of June 30, 2013 (9) gender (10) school name (if applicable) (11) word count. Teachers and youth directors may submit a collection of essays from their class or group. Please enclose a list of participants&#8217; names and the name and contact information of the submitting teacher or director. (Entries missing any of the above information will not be considered.)<\/p>\n<p>4. \u00a0 \u00a0Entries may be submitted by postal mail or online. (IMPORTANT: To send your essay online, you must go to the online registration page at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goipeace.or.jp\"  target=\"_blank\">www.goipeace.or.jp<\/a> and follow the required steps.)<\/p>\n<p>5. \u00a0 \u00a0Essays must be original and unpublished.<\/p>\n<p>6. \u00a0 \u00a0Essays must be written by one person. Co-authored essays are not accepted.<\/p>\n<p>7. \u00a0 \u00a0Copyright of the essays entered will be assigned to the organizers.<\/p>\n<p><b>Deadline<\/b>: \u00a0 \u00a0Entries must be received by JUNE 30, 2013.<\/p>\n<p><b>Awards<\/b>: \u00a0 \u00a0The following awards will be given in the Children&#8217;s category and Youth category respectively:<\/p>\n<p>1st Prize: \u00a0 \u00a0Certificate and prize of 100,000 Yen (approx. US$1,140 as of January 2013) \u00a0&#8230; 1 entrant<\/p>\n<p>2nd Prize: \u00a0 Certificate and prize of 50,000 Yen (approx. US$570 as of January 2013) \u00a0&#8230; 2 entrants<\/p>\n<p>3rd Prize: \u00a0 \u00a0Certificate and gift \u00a0&#8230; 5 entrants<\/p>\n<p>Honorable Mention: \u00a0Certificate and gift \u00a0&#8230; 25 entrants<\/p>\n<p>* 1st prize winners will be invited to the award ceremony in Tokyo, Japan scheduled for November 2013.
