Tel Aviv\u2019s genocide depends on weapons supplied by other countries.\u00a0 Naaman Omar APA images<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>7 Feb 2024<\/em> &#8211; A major Japanese industrial conglomerate is cutting ties with Israeli arms maker Elbit, citing the International Court of Justice <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/blogs\/maureen-clare-murphy\/world-court-orders-israel-halt-gaza-genocide\" >ruling<\/a> that Israel may be committing genocide in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Itochu Corporation said its aviation division would terminate its partnership with Elbit by the end of February.<\/p>\n<p>Tsuyoshi Hachimura, Itochu\u2019s chief financial officer, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/japans-itochu-end-cooperation-with-israels-elbit-over-gaza-war-2024-02-05\/\" >said<\/a> that his company\u2019s partnership with Elbit was \u201cbased on a request from the Japan\u2019s defense ministry for the purpose of importing defense equipment for the Self-Defense Forces necessary for Japan\u2019s security, and is not in any way related to the current conflict between Israel and Palestine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the decision to end the relationship clearly is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaking into consideration the International Court of Justice\u2019s order on 26 January, and that the Japanese government supports the role of the Court, we have already suspended new activities related to the MOU [memorandum of understanding], and plan to end the MOU by the end of February,\u201d Hachimura added.<\/p>\n<p>The deal <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asdnews.com\/news\/defense\/2023\/03\/15\/elbit-signs-mou-with-nippon-aircraft-supply-itochu-aviation-at-dsei-japan\" >signed less than a year ago<\/a> was hailed at the time by Israel\u2019s ambassador in Tokyo as evidence of the \u201cdeepening relations between Israel and Japan, relations that are based on mutual interests and shared values.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Action against Israel in Belgium, Spain and Switzerland<\/h2>\n<p>This is one of the first signs that the ICJ decision is already prompting companies and governments to cut ties with Israel \u2013 perhaps fearing that they too could become legally implicated in genocide.<\/p>\n<p>This week the government of Wallonia, one of Belgium\u2019s three federal regions, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vrt.be\/vrtnws\/en\/2024\/02\/06\/export-licence-suspended-israel-belgium-wallonia-antwerp-gunpowd\/\" >suspended arms export licenses<\/a> to Israel, also citing the ICJ decision.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: Logistics giant, Kuehne + Nagel, confirm they&#39;ve cut their contract with Elbit Systems and will not work with the Israeli weapons maker again.<\/p>\n<p>This victory comes after Palestine Action targeted the  firm over their transportation of Israeli weaponry.<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ShutElbitDown?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" >#ShutElbitDown<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VWc15vHp2A\" >pic.twitter.com\/VWc15vHp2A<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Palestine Action (@Pal_action) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Pal_action\/status\/1753396383506149493?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" >February 2, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Separately, Palestine Action <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.palestineaction.org\/kuehne-nagel-victory\/\" >said<\/a> it had forced Switzerland-based global logistics giant Kuehne+Nagel to end its ties with Elbit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn an email to Palestine Action, transportation giant Kuehne+Nagel (K+N) declared they\u2019ve ended all ties with Israel\u2019s largest weapons firm, Elbit Systems, and will not be working with them again in the future,\u201d the activist group <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.palestineaction.org\/kuehne-nagel-victory\/\" >announced<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis victory comes after a direct action campaign by Palestine Action, which first involved activists from Palestine Action breaking into the K+N\u2019s Leicester offices, smashing windows and spray painting the inside\u201d last May, followed by similar actions in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>And on Tuesday, Spanish foreign minister Jos\u00e9 Manuel Albares <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.net\/news\/2024\/2\/6\/\u0648\u0632\u064a\u0631-\u062e\u0627\u0631\u062c\u064a\u0629-\u0625\u0633\u0628\u0627\u0646\u064a\u0627-\u0644\u0644\u062c\u0632\u064a\u0631\u0629-\u0646\u062f\u0639\u0645\" >told Al Jazeera<\/a> that Madrid had suspended all arms exports to Israel since 7 October.<\/p>\n<p>Albares said that the events of that day \u201cmade us realize the importance of a just and lasting solution to the issue of the Palestinian people.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>US Arms Genocide<\/h2>\n<p>While these steps are important and necessary, the reality remains that Israel\u2019s chief arms supplier, the United States, shows no signs of slowing down its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/the-biden-administration-once-again-bypasses-congress-on-an-emergency-weapons-sale-to-israel\" >airlift of the bombs and other weapons<\/a> Tel Aviv is using to methodically exterminate Palestinians in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, US President Joe Biden <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2024\/01\/30\/remarks-by-president-biden-before-marine-one-departure-43\/#:~:text=Q%20Mr.%20President%2C%20do%20you,the%20people%20who%20did%20it.\" >said<\/a> he held Iran responsible for the deaths of three American soldiers in a drone attack on a base in Jordan because, he alleged, \u201cthey\u2019re supplying the weapons to the people who did it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden has also <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/biden-israel-hamas-oct-7-44c4229d4c1270d9cfa484b664a22071#:~:text=WASHINGTON%20(AP)%20\u2014%20President%20Joe,in%20the%20Israel%2DHamas%20war.\" >previously acknowledged<\/a> that Israel has engaged in \u201cindiscriminate bombing\u201d of Gaza \u2013 a war crime.<\/p>\n<p>By his own standards, therefore, Biden is effectively confessing to his own guilt for war crimes that a growing number of companies and governments around the world refuse to support.<\/p>\n<p>_____________________________________________<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Ali-Abunimah.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-75728\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Ali-Abunimah.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"90\" height=\"90\" \/><\/a> Ali Abunimah &#8211;
