{"id":254793,"date":"2024-02-19T12:00:45","date_gmt":"2024-02-19T12:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=254793"},"modified":"2024-02-15T06:15:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T06:15:18","slug":"the-truelove","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2024\/02\/the-truelove\/","title":{"rendered":"The TrueLove"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a faith in loving fiercely<br \/>\nthe one who is rightfully yours,<br \/>\nespecially if you have<br \/>\nwaited years and especially<br \/>\nif part of you never believed<br \/>\nyou could deserve this<br \/>\nloved and beckoning hand<br \/>\nheld out to you this way.<\/p>\n<p>I am thinking of faith now<br \/>\nand the testaments of loneliness<br \/>\nand what we feel we are<br \/>\nworthy of in this world.<\/p>\n<p>Years ago in the Hebrides,<br \/>\nI remember an old man<br \/>\nwho walked every morning<br \/>\non the grey stones<br \/>\nto the shore of baying seals,<br \/>\nwho would press his hat<br \/>\nto his chest in the blustering<br \/>\nsalt wind and say his prayer<br \/>\nto the turbulent Jesus<br \/>\nhidden in the water,<\/p>\n<p>and I think of the story<br \/>\nof the storm and everyone<br \/>\nwaking and seeing<br \/>\nthe distant<br \/>\nyet familiar figure<br \/>\nfar across the water<br \/>\ncalling to them<\/p>\n<p>and how we are all<br \/>\npreparing for that<br \/>\nabrupt waking,<br \/>\nand that calling,<br \/>\nand that moment<br \/>\nwe have to say yes,<br \/>\nexcept it will<br \/>\nnot come so grandly<br \/>\nso Biblically<br \/>\nbut more subtly<br \/>\nand intimately in the face<br \/>\nof the one you know<br \/>\nyou have to love<\/p>\n<p>so that when<br \/>\nwe finally step out of the boat<br \/>\ntoward them, we find<br \/>\neverything holds<br \/>\nus, and everything confirms<br \/>\nour courage, and if you wanted<br \/>\nto drown you could,<br \/>\nbut you don\u2019t<br \/>\nbecause finally<br \/>\nafter all this struggle<br \/>\nand all these years<br \/>\nyou simply don\u2019t want to<br \/>\nany more<br \/>\nyou\u2019ve simply had enough<br \/>\nof drowning<br \/>\nand you want to live and you<br \/>\nwant to love and you will<br \/>\nwalk across any territory<br \/>\nand any darkness<br \/>\nhowever fluid and however<br \/>\ndangerous to take the<br \/>\none hand you know<br \/>\nbelongs in yours.<\/p>\n<p>____________________________________________<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/david-whyte.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-254794\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/david-whyte-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"90\" height=\"107\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/david-whyte-253x300.jpg 253w, https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/david-whyte.jpg 310w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 90px) 100vw, 90px\" \/><\/a>David Whyte is an Anglo-Irish poet.
