{"id":255415,"date":"2024-02-26T12:00:53","date_gmt":"2024-02-26T12:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=255415"},"modified":"2024-02-22T04:09:13","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T04:09:13","slug":"passing-away-of-prof-johan-galtung","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2024\/02\/passing-away-of-prof-johan-galtung\/","title":{"rendered":"Passing Away of Prof. Johan Galtung"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>21 Feb 2024 <\/em>&#8211; I am deeply saddened\u00a0to hear of his death.<\/p>\n<p>I first met Prof Galtung when he was a guest lecturer at the School of Social Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia. This was decades ago, in the eighties. Over the years we interacted a number of times in my homeland, Malaysia, and abroad at conferences.<\/p>\n<p>It goes without saying that he was one of the most outstanding intellectuals of our time. He always had a unique perspective to offer on the great challenges we faced in the last few decades. He had a razor-sharp mind with which he dissected complex issues and conveyed his thoughts to the general public in a simple and straightforward\u00a0 manner. This was especially true of his contributions in peace studies for which he will always be remembered.<\/p>\n<p>Galtung had enriched knowledge with practical\u00a0solutions which impacted directly upon the lives of ordinary people. In that sense he helped ease the pain and suffering of his fellow human beings.<\/p>\n<p>May his soul repose among the righteous.<\/p>\n<p><em>_____________________________________________<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Chandra-Muzaffar-e1521637520187.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-107426\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Chandra-Muzaffar-e1521637520187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"105\" \/><\/a> Dr. Chandra Muzaffar is a member of the <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tpu\/\" ><em>TRANSCEND Network for Peace, Development and Environment<\/em><\/a><em>, and president of the International Movement for a Just World (JUST). He is the author of the e-book \u2018<\/em>Whither WANA?-Reflections on the Arab Uprisings,\u2019<em> which is accessible through the JUST website, <\/em><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.just-international.org\/\" ><em>www.just-international.org<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Galtung had enriched knowledge with practical\u00a0solutions which impacted directly upon the lives of ordinary people.
