It is felt that if a person laughs in the photos, it will clearly demonstrate that the person is happy in the business that (s/he) is involved and this will boost the sales of the product. Leaders also feel that they look better and more convincing if they are shown laughing.

We need to talk about ordinary people — living in their homes or even with their parents or grand parents . Does laughter indicate some qualities or features about them?

Yes it does. Apart from displaying that they are happy, it also indicates that they are contented with the situation that they are part of. It shows that the situation they are in, can be duplicated by others also so that they are also contented and satisfied. This person’s situation is not special or unique but represents a situation that has necessary ingredients to make the person content. Usually most persons are accompanied by their mother or father or wife. What are these ingredients— are they unique to that individual or can be copied or created for others also?

Their situation consists of a comfortable home or living condition that gives freedom to act or become free of common difficulties. For example it shows that there is space to move around and has necessary resources like electricity and other basic needs and has a person who cleans the home and keeps things in order in addition to the presence of their parent or wife.

The many articles that are required — basic articles such as food, water or milk etc are available to make tea or coffee when required by usually a woman who is part of the house in addition to their mother. Dishes usually vegetarian can be made in their home without much difficulty by their wife or mother or the woman who keeps the home clean.

Some women feel somewhat uncomfortable in such conditions in their homes. They would like to have greater responsibility and dignity. But several women feel comfortable in the condition they are in. They feel that they can bring joy and happiness in such a situation. They are responsible and flexible in their behaviour. They keep themselves busy and share a sense of peace and harmony and joy.

______________________________________________

Dr Ravi P Bhatia is a member of the TRANSCEND Network for Peace Development Environment, an educationist, Gandhian scholar and peace researcher.
