A <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.icj-cij.org\/sites\/default\/files\/case-related\/192\/192-20240524-ord-01-00-en.pdf\" >document<\/a> released by the UN Friday cites the developments in Rafah have led to a \u201ccatastrophic humanitarian situation,\u201d and the situation \u201cis now to be characterized as disastrous.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE (ICJ) ORDER ISRAEL IMMEDIATELY STOP MILITARY OFFENSIVE IN RAFAH <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KH4o5dVW7U\" >pic.twitter.com\/KH4o5dVW7U<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Sulaiman Ahmed (@ShaykhSulaiman) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShaykhSulaiman\/status\/1794001171486765456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" >May 24, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The document states that the ICJ deems Israel\u2019s measures to purportedly protect civilians in the Gaza Strip, particularly those displaced from Rafah, as insufficient. The Court points to an analysis by Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), who stated on May 18:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201c[t]he areas that people are fleeing to now do not have safe water supplies or sanitation facilities. Al-Mawasi as one example is a sandy 14 square kilometre agricultural land, where people are left out in the open with little to no buildings or roads.
