It is called Palestine; it is called the boys, girls, and babies who have died dismembered by the bombs,\u201d the Colombian president declared on 2 May. \u201cIf Palestine dies, humanity dies, and we are not going to let it die any more than we are going to let humanity die,\u201d Petro added.<\/p>\n<p>As Colombia\u2019s first-ever leftist leader, Petro has been a\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thecradle.co\/articles\/colombian-president-threatens-to-suspend-israel-ties-we-do-not-support-genocides\" >vocal critic<\/a>\u00a0of Israel\u2019s genocidal war in Gaza. Days after Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on 7 October, Petro accused Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant of using language similar to what the \u201cNazis said of the Jews,\u201d which prompted Tel Aviv to halt security exports to Colombia.<\/p>\n<p>Bogota\u2019s latest announcement came on the same day that Spain, Ireland, and Norway announced they would jointly\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thecradle.co\/articles\/norway-spain-ireland-to-formally-recognize-palestinian-statehood\" >recognize<\/a>\u00a0the State of Palestine on 28 May.
