{"id":265707,"date":"2024-07-01T12:01:57","date_gmt":"2024-07-01T11:01:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=265707"},"modified":"2024-06-29T07:11:57","modified_gmt":"2024-06-29T06:11:57","slug":"really-think-about-what-it-means-that-the-us-president-has-dementia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2024\/07\/really-think-about-what-it-means-that-the-us-president-has-dementia\/","title":{"rendered":"Really Think about What It Means That the US President Has Dementia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Really Think About What It Means That The US President Has\u00a0Dementia\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ItqP677qPBw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>28 Jun 2024 <\/em>&#8211; It\u2019s very revealing how everybody\u2019s focusing on what Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ayeejuju\/status\/1806497513169637875\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dementia-addled debate performance<\/a> says about his ability to win re-election instead of on the fact that <strong><em>the current, sitting president of the United States has dementia.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you were lucky enough to have missed the debate, Biden was so <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YPHdzKsh-7U\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">confused and zoned out<\/a> that not only did CNN\u2019s audience <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/prem_thakker\/status\/1806539614338888087\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overwhelmingly say Trump won<\/a> while the word \u201cdementia\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/plramirez\/status\/1806566197745668455\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">was sent trending on Twitter<\/a>, but it was also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2_clVA97rN0&amp;t=195s\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">uniformly acknowledged<\/a> to have been a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jordylancaster\/status\/1806530921006247951\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">horrifying catastrophe<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ioVZ7v9r3bI\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democratic Party operatives<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KanekoaTheGreat\/status\/1806523693906141444\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">liberal media pundits<\/a>, who are now <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/1Est1\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">widely<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fBsm9WIOcLk\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suggesting<\/a> that the president <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/alexbkane\/status\/1806630988404883566\" >should withdraw from the race<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the conversation has almost entirely revolved around Joe Biden as a presidential candidate, with relatively little attention going to the fact that this person is the president <strong><em>right now<\/em><\/strong>. Everyone\u2019s talking about whether Biden can assure American voters that he has what it takes to be president, and nobody seems all that concerned about the fact that he is already president and will remain so for half a year.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"MAJOR DEBATE GAFFE: Biden Says &#039;We Finally Beat Medicare&#039; During First Presidential Debate\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ej4gFT21VOM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>What this suggests is that people already kind of know on some level that the president of the United States doesn\u2019t really run the United States, but are still mentally compartmentalized away from this reality enough to care who wins the presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>If people really believed the president runs the country, they\u2019d be freaking out that Biden in his demented haze might order an attack on the Soviet Union or nuke Libya to kill Muammar Gaddafi or something. They\u2019re not worried that this will happen because they know their government is actually being run by unelected empire managers from behind the scenes, and that Biden is just the official face on the operation.<\/p>\n<p>So in order to hold their mainstream worldview together, liberals are simultaneously straddling the two completely contradictory concepts that (A) it doesn\u2019t matter who the president is because the country is actually run by unelected empire managers, and (B) that Biden\u2019s debate performance was very concerning because it means Trump will become president.<\/p>\n<p>If they let go of (A) then they\u2019re no longer in the mainstream worldview where their country works how they were taught it works in school, and if they let go of (B) then they\u2019re no longer in the mainstream worldview where presidential elections are super duper important and all their country\u2019s problems are the result of Americans voting incorrectly. So they straddle them both and try not to think too hard about the obvious contradictions between them, in order to avoid the crushing cognitive dissonance they\u2019d experience if they looked at them too closely.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The entire CNN post-debate panel is talking about how incoherent Biden was. And they legitimately seemed shocked. Incredible stuff. They got their genocide in Gaza and their world-threatening proxy war against Russia, as well as China policy that <a href=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2024\/06\/18\/report-chinas-xi-says-us-attempted-to-trick-him-into-taiwan-invasion\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">is vastly more hawkish<\/a> than that of Biden\u2019s predecessors. The imperial murder machine hasn\u2019t skipped a beat in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caitlinjohnst.one\/p\/the-us-empire-isnt-a-government-that\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">its nonstop campaign<\/a> of steadily increasing global tyranny.<\/p>\n<p>This has happened because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caitlinjohnst.one\/p\/when-the-powerful-control-public\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">US presidential elections are fake<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/caitlinjohnstone.com.au\/2023\/08\/10\/its-never-about-the-us-president-its-about-the-us-empire\/comment-page-1\/\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the results don\u2019t matter<\/a>. It wouldn\u2019t matter if Americans elected a labrador retriever or a bottle of Tabasco sauce; the empire would roll forward without the slightest interruption. The wars would continue. The economic injustice would continue. The surging authoritarianism would continue. The oligarchy and corruption would continue. The ecocidal capitalism would continue. The imperialist extraction would continue.<\/p>\n<p>US elections are just a diversion to keep Americans from pushing for real change in ways that pose a meaningful challenge to power, and Americans already kind of know this.
