[Hatem Khaled\/Reuters]<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><em>Outrage after 90 killed in designated \u2018safe zone\u2019 attack that Israel says targeted Hamas military leader.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>13 Jul 2024 <\/em>&#8211; The United Nations and countries across the Middle East have denounced Israel after its military attacked a designated humanitarian safe zone in Gaza, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/7\/13\/at-least-50-killed-in-israeli-strike-on-al-mawasi-safe-zone-in-south-gaza\" >killing at least 90 Palestinians<\/a> and wounding 300 others.<\/p>\n<p>Israel said the target of Saturday\u2019s attack in al-Mawasi was Hamas commander Mohammed Deif, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was not certain if the fighter had been killed.\u00a0Hamas rejected the premise of the assault as \u201cfalse\u201d, saying \u201cdefenceless civilians\u201d were killed in the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Photos and videos verified by Al Jazeera\u2019s Sanad agency showed Palestinians sifting through debris and what appeared to be remnants of tents at the location of the attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how countries have responded:<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"jordan\">Jordan<\/h2>\n<p>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack on \u201cdisplaced persons\u2019 tents in Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip, in an area that Israel had previously classified as safe, which resulted in the death and injury of dozens of Palestinians\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson Sufyan al-Qudah said Jordan called for the international community to act to bring an end to Palestinian suffering amid Israel\u2019s repeated violations of international law.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"egypt\">Egypt<\/h2>\n<p>In a statement, Egypt\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Israel\u2019s \u201congoing violations against the rights of Palestinian citizens\u201d add serious \u201ccomplications\u201d to achieving a ceasefire deal.<\/p>\n<p>Egypt has been among the countries working to mediate such an agreement between Israel and Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe condemn in the strongest terms the Israeli raids on the al-Mawasi area,\u201d the Foreign Ministry said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3043816\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3043816\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3043816 size-arc-image-770\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/2024-07-13T090318Z_1402875620_RC28U8A67PL2_RTRMADP_3_ISRAEL-PALESTINIANS-1720861817.jpg?resize=770%2C538&amp;quality=80\" alt=\"al-Mawasi\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3043816\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Palestinian woman reacts following an Israeli attack on a tent camp in al-Mawasi in southern Gaza [Mohammed Salem\/Reuters]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"qatar\">Qatar<\/h2>\n<p>Doha has also been working as a mediator in ceasefire negotiations. On Saturday, it called the \u201cshocking and brutal massacre\u201d at al-Mawasi \u201ca new chapter in the ongoing series of crimes\u201d committed by Israel against Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>It warned the attack would further undermine efforts for a lasting peace, \u201cthereby expanding the cycle of violence in the region and threatening international peace and security\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"turkey\" class=\"p1\">Turkey<\/h2>\n<p>The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called the attack \u201ca phase of the Netanyahu government\u2019s effort to annihilate the Palestinians entirely\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that Israel once again opted for bloodshed when it was expected to respond to Hamas\u2019s positive response to the ceasefire [proposal] is evidence that the Netanyahu government is trying to prevent negotiations for a permanent ceasefire,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>It called on countries supporting Israel to put an end to the \u201cbarbarism\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3043942\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3043942\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3043942 size-arc-image-770\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/2024-07-13T094931Z_1875345524_RC29U8AYBZ46_RTRMADP_3_ISRAEL-PALESTINIANS-1720866711.jpg?resize=770%2C513&amp;quality=80\" alt=\"Palestinians say was an Israeli strike at a tent camp in Al-Mawasi area\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3043942\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A woman cries in the aftermath of an attack in al-Mawasi [Hatem Khaled\/Reuters]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"iran\">Iran<\/h2>\n<p>Iran\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Nasser Kanaani called the attack on al-Mawasi the \u201clatest crime in the series of crimes committed by the child-killing Zionist regime\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Zionists have once again brutally shown that in order to compensate for the defeats suffered on the battlefield with the resistance, they do not recognise any humane and moral red line towards the defenceless residents of the Gaza Strip, but they must know that insisting on this path is nothing but a wider global hatred,\u201d Kanaani said in a post on X.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"palestinian-authority\">Palestinian Authority<\/h2>\n<p>Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Authority (PA) presidency, which governs parts of the Israeli-occupied West Bank,\u00a0 said the attack was a \u201ccontinuation of the genocidal war against our people, and the US administration bears responsibility for the continuation of the massacres.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement carried by the Wafa news agency, Abu Rudeineh added: \u201cWithout blind and biased American support, this occupation would not have been able to continue its bloody crimes against our people, and to defy international laws and the decisions of international courts that have demanded an end to the onslaught and protection for our people.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"united-nations\">United Nations<\/h2>\n<p>UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was \u201cshocked and saddened\u201d by the Israeli air raids which killed at least 90 Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe [Israeli military] stated that they were targeting two senior members of Hamas,\u201d Guterres said in a statement. \u201cThe Secretary General underlines that international humanitarian law including the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precautions in attack must be upheld at all times.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"hezbollah\">Hezbollah<\/h2>\n<p>Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah decried Israel\u2019s attack and said the Lebanese group\u2019s attacks against Israeli targets fulfil the \u201cduty\u201d to support Palestinians and are not a \u201cfavour\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, the occupation carried out a large massacre against displaced people in al-Mawasi in Khan Younis. Then it justified it by saying it wanted to target [Hamas] leaders,\u201d he said. \u201cAre there worse injustices and oppression in the world?\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"saudi-arabia\">Saudi Arabia<\/h2>\n<p>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for \u201cactivating international accountability mechanisms\u201d against Israeli abuses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Foreign Ministry condemns in strongest terms the continuation of genocidal massacres against the Palestinian people at the hands of the Israeli war machine, the latest of which was the targeting [of] displaced people\u2019s camps in Khan Younis in the south of the Gaza Strip,\u201d it said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-arc-image-770 wp-image-2682815 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/INTERACTIVE-AL-MAWASI-FEB6-2024-1707221843.png?w=770&amp;resize=770%2C770&amp;quality=80\" alt=\"INTERACTIVE-AL-MAWASI-FEB6-2024-1707221843\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"organisation-for-islamic-cooperation\">Organisation for Islamic Cooperation<\/h2>\n<p>The OIC said it strongly condemned Israel\u2019s \u201cheinous massacres\u201d in al-Mawasi as well as in the Shati refugee camp.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation said it considers the attacks an \u201cextension of the crime of genocide that the Israeli occupation continues to commit against Palestinian civilians, in blatant defiance of\u201d UN resolutions and the orders of the International Court of Justice.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"united-arab-emirates\">United Arab Emirates<\/h2>\n<p>The UAE denounced Israeli abuses in Gaza, including \u201cthe most recent targeting of camps for displaced people in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, which led to numerous deaths and injuries to dozens of innocent civilians\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s Foreign Ministry also \u201creaffirmed the need for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life, reiterating the importance of protecting civilians and civilian institutions, according to the international law including international treaties\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"oman\">Oman<\/h2>\n<p>Oman said the Israeli attack was \u201can explicit act of terrorism and new evidence of the policy of deliberate extermination\u2026 towards the Palestinian people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s foreign minister said in a statement that the raids, which targeted \u201cunarmed civilians\u201d, were in clear breach of international law.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"colombia\">Colombia<\/h2>\n<p>President Gustavo Petro decried what he called \u201cthe greatest injustice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am even more outraged because this destruction of international human law is a prelude to the barbarism they want to unleash on all the oppressed people of the earth,\u201d he said in a post on X.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"malaysia\">Malaysia<\/h2>\n<p>The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has \u201cstrongly condemned\u201d Israel\u2019s \u201crelentless attacks against Palestinians\u201d, including yesterday\u2019s attack on the al-Mawasi camp.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis heinous and appalling attack, which took place inside an area Israel designated itself as a safe zone for Palestinians, is a flagrant disregard for all human life,\u201d the ministry said in a statement shared on X.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"un-special-rapporteur-for-the-occupied-palestinian-territory\">UN special rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territory<\/h2>\n<p id=\"speaking-to-al-jazeera-on-saturday-francesca-albanese-said-that-israel-likely-violated-international-by-striking-in-a-designated-humanitarian-zone\">Speaking to Al Jazeera on Saturday, Francesca Albanese said Israel likely violated international law by striking in a designated humanitarian zone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m disgusted by the tolerance of Israel\u2019s impunity which is enabling the genocidal war,\u201d Albanese said.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Albanese <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/program\/newsfeed\/2024\/3\/26\/reasonable-grounds-to-believe-israel-committing-genocide\" >issued a report<\/a> listing \u201creasonable grounds\u201d to believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"united-states\">United States<\/h2>\n<p>While the administration of US President Joe Biden has yet to respond to Saturday\u2019s attack, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said, \u201cWe must do more to stop this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Writing on X, Jayapal said, \u201cIsrael is continuing a horrific assault on Gaza, forcing the closure of medical facilities and even restricting the entry of medical equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She called for an \u201cimmediate and permanent ceasefire to release the hostages and save lives\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/7\/13\/shocking-and-brutal-massacre-world-reacts-to-israels-al-mawasi-attack\" >Go to Original &#8211;
