Dear friends of Johan Galtung and his great and persistent impulse for peace – the one that was his guiding light from a young age until he died on 17 Feb this year, aged 93. We invite you to a gathering in Jondal to commemorate the extensive work of the father of peace research. Welcome to honour his life! The program will start with peace-related input. We invite you to a lunch with cultural features and short contributions from those who want to share memories from their collaboration with Johan: we look forward for you to sign up.<\/p>\n

In August 2022, the Hardanger Academy under former chairwoman Johanne Hartwig was contacted by Johan Galtung, in consultation with his wife Fumiko. Johan then said that he wanted to donate his archive and his library with associated photos and awards to the Hardanger Academy.<\/p>\n

He and Fumi wished a memorial gathering to be arranged in Jondal, where the Galtung family has its roots. Johan pointed out that everyone who wanted to, should be welcome to this gathering “which should not be sad, but a celebration of life.”<\/p>\n

It is with gratitude and joy that we now invite you to a memorial gathering.<\/p>\n

We regard the donation of the library and archive as a declaration of trust. An agreement has been signed between the Hardanger Academy, the Kraftmuseet and Johan Galtung. We are happy about this, as SINDARK – the State’s industrial archive at the Kraftmuseet in Tyssedal will actively manage the archive in the best possible way. The work to turn the study room in the Galtung suite at Jonatunet into a room for displaying Johan Galtung’s private library, photos and awards has begun.<\/p>\n
