\nsway to the magic of nai and oud

\nmothers’ tender words inseparable from a meal
\nzait and Zaatar
\nIn Palestine
\nwhere we we worshipped in mosque, church, and olive groves
\nwhere we learned to live together everyday
\neven when not knowing it would be our last day
\nIn Palestine
\nwhere We hated the occupation, the land confiscation, the US funded army
\nwhere we mourned friends lost
\nwhere we resisted by staying, living, and loving
\nand when we could not stay, we stayed connected
\nwith all that was good and worthy of our love
\nOf Palestine
\nwhere we got to school dodging
\nbullets, checkpoints, walls
\n“Keef al-ma7soom alyoum”
\nIn the refugee camps..the loneliness of the ghorba
\nwe still married, had children, laughed, cried, lived, and loved
\nwe taught our children to kick the ball, to say Ahlan wa Sahlan,
\nand to believe that
\nOur ashes join a million million spirits
\nof ancestors who lived and loved
\nand children who live and love
\nwe still teach them
\n“like 20 impossibles”

\nTo Palestine
