The British journalist revealed on X his treatment by the authorities after being arrested under Section 12 of the U.K.\u2019s Terrorism Act.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

19 Aug 2024 <\/em>– The arrest on Aug. 15, came eight days after the F.B.I. raided the home of journalist and CN<\/strong><\/em> columnist Scott Ritter in the United States.<\/p>\n

Section 12 of the British Terrorism Act criminalizes holding certain opinions or beliefs. It reads:<\/p>\n

\u201c12 <\/span>Support:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

(1) <\/span>A person commits an offence if\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n

(a) <\/span>he invites support for a proscribed organisation, and<\/span><\/p>\n

(b) <\/span>the support is not, or is not restricted to, the provision of money or other property (within the meaning of section 15).<\/span><\/p>\n

[<\/span>F1<\/a> (1A) <\/span><\/span>A person commits an offence if the person\u2014<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

(a) <\/span><\/span>expresses an opinion or belief that is supportive of a proscribed organisation, and<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

(b ) <\/span><\/span>in doing so is reckless as to whether a person to whom the expression is directed will be encouraged to support a proscribed organisation.<\/span>]\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
