One can do this by different means and different ideologies— spiritual, industrial, educational etc. People work in industry, and they have to be given basic features of machinery that is part of the industry. They also require to be taught at various levels pre- school, formal school, College and University levels.

Spiritual guidance is provided to children through different religious means — by making them aware of some basic teachings of several Gods such as Christianity, Hinduism, Sikh religion and some smaller faiths and their basic features. These prompt children and even elder people to lead good unselfish lives . These means allow people to serve mankind and help people to live comfortably in the complex world of mountains, hills, various animals, fish and other living bodies. The teachings also generally include some knowledge of the planet Earth on which we live, and how to keep it clean and green. Teachings also include the importance of water bodies — rivers, oceans, ponds and the basic idea that water is essential for human beings as well as for animals and acquatic creatures.

One teaches small children by teaching them how to read and write; by allowing them to do simple physical excercises such as running around, by jumping, by playing simple games, by Yoga, etc. The thrust here is to impart some basic knowledge of the human body and how to keep it in good shape by physical activity etc.

Education has become essential for people to read and write and to give them a broad idea of our world that include mountains and hills, water bodies and the interaction of people with these geographic entities.

Another feature that has become essential is to understand how to keep the human environment proper and clean in spite of the human interaction with the various geographic features.

______________________________________________

Dr Ravi P Bhatia is a member of the TRANSCEND Network for Peace Development Environment, an educationist, Gandhian scholar and peace researcher.
